We are ATV'ers from the Southern Maine area and wanted to ride some new trails. We decided on the Bingham Motor Inn for our vacation. The inn itself is very dated, and the owners are quite rude. The room (we had a mini suite with a kitchen) smelled old and the furnishings had seen better days. I leaned up against the food cupboard and stuck to it. The stove had mystery stains down the side. The beds were comfortable, but the couch bed sloped down hill dangerously. We stripped our beds in the morning and got questioned as to why we did that...and got asked if we were trying to hide something...? The beds are only made up fresh when you leave. In other hotels we stayed at we got fresh linens each day, but that is not the case here. The bathroom window had no curtain, so the house next door had a prime view from their driveway right down into the bathroom. And there were several people in that driveway working on a vehicle...so showers we had to rig up a "towel curtain". We had to actually argue and explain ourselves if we requested an additional blanket or towels. We had just completed a 134 mile atv ride and we were very dusty and hot so we all took showers. I called the front desk to request more towels for the morning showers and got hollered at! We were not able to wash our bikes after riding (she said, "absolutely NOT") But had a change of heart all of a sudden...which coincided with us having a conversation about leaving her negative feedback on the ATV Maine forum... (her husband was in the next room and POSSIBLY heard us) There are little notes all over the room threatening financial fines for things such as leaving the a/c on if you leave your room, leaving windows open, leaving dirty dishes, etc... You are encouraged to re-use your shower towels...GROSS...or throw them on the floor if you want new ones. We naturally put ours on the floor to indicate that we wanted fresh clean towels for our showers......but came home to our dirty ones re-hung! And we knew they were the dirty ones because my husband had worked on one of our bikes before heading out for the day and washed his hands before we left, therefore leaving some dirty hand prints on the towel that he threw on the floor....we came home and the same towel was hung back up in our shower.....nasty. The pool was cool and refreshing, the deck surrounding the pool and the diving board was quite old and in need of repairs. The hot tub was advertised as jumbo, but fit about three adults and we were cramped for leg space even then. I went in the hot tub with a green bathing suit and came out with a brown one...but she insisted there was no chlorine in there. The hot tub is also chained and locked until the temperature goes below 80 degrees. At 10 pm sharp both hot tub and pool are closed and the owner is in the window overlooking the complex allllll the time and will come rushing out if her rules are not being followed to the T. There are no laundry facilities on the premises nor any ice machines. And ice is $5.00 per bag at the local store! There is a laundry mat a mile or so away, but bring protection if going there...it looks abandoned and scary. This place was advertised as accomodating to atv'ers but other than the hotel being trail side, there were no accomodations for us. No washing facilities after a dusty day on the trails for our bikes, or our gear. No place in the room to hang our gear after washing by hand to dry and be ready for the next day. There were some rags provided to wipe our bikes down after riding, we did so, and got accused of getting the rags dirty.
The trails in the area were beautiful and quite rewarding. We saw a bear, moose, rabbits, and many types of birds and the views of the mountains were spectacular! Best ever! We would most certainly love to ride the trails again, but will not be staying at the Bingham Motor Inn. There were some cabins we checked out while we were there that were very affordable and soooo cute. The name of the cabins were Gateway Cabins. They were right on the trail as well and do provide washing facilities, ice, etc. The owner was very friendly as well.
