My husband and I have stayed with Alice and Dick Thompson on 4 occasions, and each has been a flawless week. Ms. Thompson has thought of every possible convenience for a comfortable, carefree stay. The cottages are set on a beautiful green lawn with a direct view of the water (one of the cottages has a deck (with furniture) that actually sits over the water!), they are well cared for on the exterior and are sparkling clean inside, with comfortable furniture, a color TV, a well-equipped kitchen and a nice bath. And there's plenty of water pressure and hot water. The cottages are just rustic enough to be fun but modern enough to be very accommodating. We loved that not only is there is a lobster pot w/ cooking instructions in the kitchen, there is a lobster pound right next door to buy lobster rolls for lunch or the perfect crustacean for dinners. The cottages are near to Booth Bay Harbour and lots of restaurants and shops and galleries, plus they are well situated for day trips out to lots other little towns of interest.
On one trip, we brought our bikes with us from VA and biked along the tiny road of Southport and explored that way. On a couple of mornings when the weather was especially nice we hopped into Ms. Thompson's sail boat and she sailed us across to Booth Bay for breakfast! How about that! We have been to Maine many times and, just for variety's sake, when we venture out on day trips, we've investigated other possibilities for cottages for the next trip. There's no contest, Thompson cottages the finest we have seen.
