Before staying in Boothbay Harbour I researched several hotels/bed and breakfasts before eventually booking the Blue Heron because of its very positive reviews, position on the waterfront and the attractiveness of the Inn.

Being cynical I couldn't imagine that such excellent reviews were true. BUT was I wrong, everything said was absolutely correct and we had a very good three days staying here. We occupied a two bed suite on the top floor for two nights and the room next door for one night. The accommodation in the two rooms was spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The deck, with table and chairs was shared but had enough space to feel totally separate from our neighbours who were delightful. The back garden goes down to the water's edge and has a swing seat and several chairs, plus a jetty for the kayaks. The front of the house was stunning, the balconies full of hanging baskets and the garden stuffed with colourful flowers and shrubs. I saw several passerbys taking photos.

The breakfasts were very, very good, plentiful and tasty (especially the honey ham). We enjoyed the change from an English breakfast.

Both Laura and Phil were relaxed and made us feel very welcome. You won't need to use a Tourist Office as Phil is a mine of information and obviously enjoyed givingideas of routes, car drives , gardens and buildings to visit. His recommendations for dinner were spot on and we enjoyed two lobster meals and the best Italian dinner we have ever eaten in the US in many years.

This is a great place to stay and we wholehearted recommend it. We wish Laura and Phil continuing success.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at the Blue Heron Seaside Inn at Boothbay Harbor in July 2007. It was wonderful! Our room was spacious, private and very clean. We enjoyed having the free internet connection. I had done a lot of research on the internet about Boothbay before picking the Blue Heron and I am so glad we did!

Our host, Phil, was wonderful. His breakfasts were fabulous, and every recommendation he gave us of stuff to do and other places to eat were just perfect. It was nice in the mornings to compare notes with other guests too of good things to do, see and eat.

It was nice that it was a comfortable bed and breakfast with all of the amenities of a hotel. We liked that there was a private entrance. Nobody bothered us during our stay, but were always around if we needed anything.

The location was perfect. We were able to leave our car and walk to everything in Boothbay Harbor. It was very nice and relaxing. Highly recommend the coffee bar two doors down too, and their chocolate fondue!

Definitely check out the Blue Heron Seaside Inn if you go to Boothbay Harbor!

In summary - we recommend it. Go there.

It's a fabulous seaside inn with a view that a website can’t give a real sense of. They have there own little stretch of harbor side where you can sunbath, take their complimentary kayaks or just watch the tide come in. The location was also perfect, a 2 min walk from the center but sufficiently far away so that you feel you have your own secluded piece of harbor.

The inn was even nicer then we expected, in many little ways. Breakfast was wonderful and our hosts were always helpful but never intrusive. You really can't beat that mixture.

We stayed in room #2, the Seabreeze, because on the website it appeared the least 'fru fru' of the rooms. The room was very clean and comfortable, with amenities like cable TV (which worked), jacuzzi tub, microwave, etc. The drawback to this room (and room #1) are that they are on the main floor of the inn and next to the hallway where breakfast is served. We could hear everything bright and early in the morning. If sleeping late is important to you, I would definitely choose a room that is not on this floor.

The location of the inn, along the water, is wonderful. I especially liked being able to watch the tides come in and out, and to see the beautiful herons at low tide. I was surprised that there was a small parking lot between our room decks (every room has a deck), which are at the back of the inn, and the water. From the website, I thought our room would be right over the water. The inn has two kayaks and a paddle boat which you can sign up for and take out for no additional charge. The location is ideal, having parking and being walking distance to anything in town. Laura gave us excellent dinner recommendations based upon what we wanted. Breakfast, made and hosted by Phil, was wonderful. Overall, I would say this is a fine inn to stay at in Boothbay.

The Blue Heron is everything that a B&B should be:

- large rooms with great views from inside or from the porch
- walking distance to every place in Boothbay Harbor
- friendly, knowledgeable host and hostess
- beautiful flowers and gardens
- kayaks and a private dock
- free internet connection
- historic house but very well modernized

Can't imagine anything they could do to make it any better. Just right as it is.
