Before staying in Boothbay Harbour I researched several hotels/bed and breakfasts before eventually booking the Blue Heron because of its very positive reviews, position on the waterfront and the attractiveness of the Inn.
Being cynical I couldn't imagine that such excellent reviews were true. BUT was I wrong, everything said was absolutely correct and we had a very good three days staying here. We occupied a two bed suite on the top floor for two nights and the room next door for one night. The accommodation in the two rooms was spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The deck, with table and chairs was shared but had enough space to feel totally separate from our neighbours who were delightful. The back garden goes down to the water's edge and has a swing seat and several chairs, plus a jetty for the kayaks. The front of the house was stunning, the balconies full of hanging baskets and the garden stuffed with colourful flowers and shrubs. I saw several passerbys taking photos.
The breakfasts were very, very good, plentiful and tasty (especially the honey ham). We enjoyed the change from an English breakfast.
Both Laura and Phil were relaxed and made us feel very welcome. You won't need to use a Tourist Office as Phil is a mine of information and obviously enjoyed givingideas of routes, car drives , gardens and buildings to visit. His recommendations for dinner were spot on and we enjoyed two lobster meals and the best Italian dinner we have ever eaten in the US in many years.
This is a great place to stay and we wholehearted recommend it. We wish Laura and Phil continuing success.
