We wanted to visit Acadia National Park, but were on a fairly strict budget and wanted our accommodations to cost less than $100 a night. We were also looking for a place that had breakfast, and one where rooms had a refrigerator. Otherwise, our expectations were pretty low. No flat screen TV or modern accoutrements here. Everything is pretty old. But there is cable TV. Obviously we read the reviews prior to booking, so we knew what to expect.
We got pretty much what we wanted at Eagle's Lodge. Our no-smoking room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the parking lot (facing east), and had 2 double beds (we'd have preferred queen, but none were available). The room was generally clean and the price reasonable, well within our budget. There was no shortage of hot water, but the shower head left a lot to be desired. There was a room A/C unit that worked fairly well. As others have noted, the breakfasts consist of pre-portioned cereals, packaged donuts, juice and coffee, milk and/or tea. We were pleased to find high-protein Kashi cereal, (along with the usual array of corn flakes, rice Krispies, etc.). The coffee and cranberry juice were good. There were plenty of brochures, maps and magazines highlighting area attractions. And there were vending machines and an ice machine just off the lobby. Coffee, tea and cocoa are available throughout the day.
On the negative side, it's nearly a 30-minute drive to Acadia National Park. And the motel is on an eastbound-only section of road. We stayed 4 nights, so that meant a lot of extra driving. There was no screen on our room's window, and the crank mechanism came loose when we opened the window to air out the room.
All in all, if you're looking for a reasonably priced, basic place to stay, particularly in the off-season, Eagle's Lodge fits the bill. Don't expect too much, and you should have a good stay.
