Rated #1 in Kennebunkport we were expecting a whole lot more.
I booked a king suite on the Hotel's own web site only to be contacted some three hours later and told that the king suites were sold out. Since we were only staying one night, I agreed to take the downgrade to a standard King with a roll-away for my nine-year-old daughter.
After a long day of driving and shopping in Freeport, we arrived at the Lodge at 9:00 pm. The reception area was dark and a note posted on the door informed late arrivals to take their key out of the basket. I guess this is ok, but so much for service.
Our room was well laid-out and surprisingly spacious. Interiors were cheerful and clean. The bathrooms, while not large, are modern and well appointed. Save for a few errant strands of hair belonging to previous guests, everything was clean.
In the morning we awoke to a beautiful, sunny view of the marina filled with swimming ducks and seemingly well-fed seagulls.
We decided to take advantage of the complimentary breakfast that was located in the reception area. This is where the wheels came off. The small breakfast area was unkempt and staffed by two teen-aged idiots. My daughter chose to eat a simple bowl of cereal, but the milk pitchers were empty. When I asked the two teens for additional milk, they stared at me as if I had four heads. I was then told that they were out of milk. Incredulous, I asked them if they could possible get off their butts to find more milk. I was told simply that the resort was "out of milk". Growing more irritated, I inquired, "Where could I get some milk?". Their answer: "Well, I suppose you could go to the grocery store".
BAD ANSWER!!!!! I am not usually one to cause a scene, but I told these two dolts that this was completely unacceptable! I reminded them that they were in a service business and that it was their job to attend to the needs of the hotel guests. Again, I was met with blank stares.
We loaded the car and checked out 20 minutes later. The gentleman at the desk asked whether everything was to my satisfaction, and I naturally told him about the lack of milk and unpleasant exchange with the teenage employees. "Gee, that's too bad," he said. "I think someone has gone to the store to get milk. They should be back within an hour if you'd like to stick around".
Yeah. Right.
We drove to town, got bagels and coffee (with milk) and got the heck out of dodge.
Kennebunkport is a BEAUTIFUL place. The next time we go, you can bet that we'll stay anywhere BUT the Yachtsman Lodge and Marina.
