My husband and I just returned from a fantastic trip to 5 Lakes Lodge for a snowmobile trip. The lodge, the hosts (Rick and Debbie), and the sledding were incredible. We travel on snowmobiles extensively and this was one of the nicest places that we have ever stayed. The lodge is beautiful and is in an idyllic setting. The first thing you see when you open your eyes in the morning is Mount Katahdin which can be seen from every room. Great breakfasts are served by Debbie each morning. It varied between pancakes, omelets, French toast, coffee cakes, muffins - and all were exceptionally tasty. There is a great room with a huge stone fireplace where you can chat with your new snowmobile friends.
The sledding was fantastic! Rick is also one of the groomers for the Jo Mary Riders club. They have 3 groomers on site and Rick is extremely meticulous about the shape of these trails. The Mount Katahdin region is one of the best places to go as a snowmobile destination in New England, if not THE best. There are views of Mount Katahdin every where you turn. There are a number of loops you can do to visit other locations for lunch stops, etc. Rick will give you a very accurate, up to date, trail report each morning. He knows which trails have just been groomed and which to avoid. Rick was "spot-on" in his report. There is also gas available for guests of the lodge. Rick and Debbie will also let you know where the local restaurants are located. The closest ones are in the town of Millinocket, about 15 minutes away.
Bottom line -
This is an upscale, beautiful lodge with great hosts and great snowmobiling. You would be hard pressed to find a better snowmobile spot in New England. You arrive here as a guest but you will likely leave feeling like friends or members of their family. It is obvious that Rick and Debbie truly love what they do.
