The Collier House is a lovely B&B located on Mount Desert Island, about 10 minutes from Acadia Park entrances and 15 minutes from Bar Harbor. The Inn offers several buildings with different types of rooms, many with Jacuzzis. It is quiet, secluded and charming. Breakfasts are delicious and personally served by the Innkeeper, George.
One reviewer (who did not stay at the inn) described George as rude and unprofessional. Nothing could be further from the truth. George is one of the main reasons we return year after year. He has always gone out of his way to make our stays wonderful. One year, the bearings on our Jacuzzi burned out- George pulled out the motor and had the parts replaced and Jacuzzi functional the next day. This year, we had a travel emergency en route to The Collier House. With no one else to turn to, we called George at 9:30 on a Saturday night, and he went out of his way to solve our problem. George is a long time local, and knows the area intimately- a great source of advice for planning day trips etc.
If you need noise, constant internet stimulation, and urban compactness, you won't like this place. It is a spectacular romantic getaway.

My wife and I just returned from our second wonderful stay at the Collier House. We love the Acadia/Bar Harbor area and will certainly return next year. It’s hard to imagine what another inn would have to offer to coax us away from staying at the Collier House on our next Maine vacation.

The rooms in the main house are modest, but clean, comfortable and attractive. They are a real value for the area, I think. The rooms in the outbuildings are a bit more spacious with lots of amenities (Jacuzzi, refrigerator, fireplace, etc.). The grounds are pretty and well-tended, with a nice little pond full of some very photogenic water lilies.

The breakfasts are amazing!! The inn keeper, George Clemens, makes everything there on the premises. The sumptuous entrees along with all the breads and pastries. I hate to admit it, but his breakfasts became one of the highlights of our past two trips. We go to one of the most beautiful places in the world, and the first thing we tell people about is all the great stuff we had for breakfast!

The hospitality at the Collier House is first rate, and George is a great guy. We found him to be very attentive to our needs, as well as extremely helpful in helping us to locate restaurants, services and even a few secluded spots that we might not have found otherwise.

I’d also like to add that George went above and beyond any reasonable expectation of what you would expect of an innkeeper on our first visit. We had a problem that could have really ruined our vacation. George offered the sort of help you might only expect of family or a close friend. As a result, our vacation wasn’t impacted at all. We got to enjoy every single day of it. We both ended up feeling as though we had a friend in Maine, not just an innkeeper. It made it that much harder to leave, but we look forward to returning that much more.

I can’t recommend the Collier House strongly enough!

George was a great innkeeper and a big help in making recommendations. He directed us to owner operated restaurants, biking and kayaking facilities for instance which saved us from experimenting. We selected Collier House because it was out of busy downtown Bar Harbor yet very accessible to Acadia. We still drove into Bar Harbor and found parking but the free National Park bus service was available nearby. George sure can cook what he lists on his website and the fact that he has been established there for some 20 years was another reason for our selection! Our room was perfect and had a lot of amenities. If something wasn't right, George took care of it immediately. There is a great BBQ place within walking distance and one of the best lobster houses is just up the road too. This is a nice laidback country setting and I would highly recommend it!

We stayed at the Collier House for our Honeymoon in June 2006. My parents had stayed there previously and loved it. It was fantastic. George was a wonderful host. He provided us with directions and showed us all the great spots to hit.

We were in a separate building. The rooms were immaculate and the staff was friendly and helpful.

The food was fantastic and abundant. If you left hungry it was your own fault.

We look forward to returning in the future. My in-laws are staying there this summer as well.

“Rude Innkeeper!”

My fiance and I are in the process of planniing our honeymoon to Maine for the week of February 11th-February 16th, 2007.

After researching several bed and breakfasts in Bar Harbor, we decided to contact The Collier House B&B. I was apalled by the unprofessional way that inn keeper, George Clemens, spoke to me when I called to inquire about the inn.

First of all, when he answered the phone, he gave no indication that I had called a business. He just answered "Hello". I had to ask if I was calling The Collier House.

Second, every book and website we have researched, including their own website, shows that they are open year-round, but doesn't specify which months fall in to which season (February being early spring?). When I called the inn, I asked George if they would be open February 14th through the 17th. He said he didn't know and asked me if it was the week of Presidents Day. I advised him I wasn't sure, but that it was the week of Valentine's day. He said he would check the books and then told me he still wasn't sure. I asked if there was anyway to find out. He said they close a week in February, but wasn't sure when?? I asked what if we made reservations online and they ended up closing. He stated that we would have to leave early if it was during our stay. I advised him we would just find another location and he Hung Up On Me!!!

I would not have even considered staying here even if they were open during the time we were looking to stay.

Very unprossional and not friendly like an inn keeper should be!
