“Ski out the back door”

Jordan Grand Resort Hotel and Conference Center

7 Mar 2008

I recently stayed at the Jordan Grand Resort at Sunday River. The hotel itself is right on the trail Lollapaluza on the Jordan bowl portion of the mountain. You can literally ski right out the back door. This was the best part of staying at this hotel.
I booked a mid week package that included the tickets, a perfect turn lesson, the room and breakfast each morning.
The room was on the second floor right off the lobby. Man was it noisy. We could hear every conversation that was going on as people stomped by the room at all hours of the night. They’re where so many teens running around I thought I had gone back to summer camp. It was awful. The room appeared clean but had a very strong cleaning solution smell. We had a stove, fridge and dishwasher along with all the utensils that went along with it. The bed was a pull down Murphy bed. The most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. The couch pulled out to a bed and rivaled the Murphy bed for the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. If you are looking for a 4 star room do not stay at the Jordan Grand. The room would be closer to a Motel 6.
The breakfast was buffet style. It featured fresh fruit and yogurt. Hot cereal, eggs, bacon and sausage and several other choices as well. It was adequate. There are 3 restaurants in the hotel. I had the breakfast and a late night snack (FF)at the Northern lights, which was good, expensive but good.
The outdoor pool was a nice set up. You entered and exited the pool from inside the hotel. However, screaming teenagers left to their own devices by their parents inundated the pool. There must have been 15-20 of them in there at all times. There is not enough chlorine in the world to clean the bacteria that must have been in that pool. Gross!
The staff was very nice and friendly. From the Girls at the front desk to Malcolm at the ski check, everyone had a smile and aimed to please!
The hotel is part of the way up the mountain therefore it requires a little drive up a bumpy mountain road. No big deal. I had read on this site that the parking was a problem. I had no problem with that either. You could park right at the door to load or unload any time you wanted. The Gentleman working the doors were very accommodating.
In closing I would say if you want to be right on the mountain with ski out the back door options this is your place. If you are looking for a cozy quiet ski get away this is defiantly not your destination of choice.

“Heaven on earth”

Jordan Grand Resort Hotel and Conference Center

26 Feb 2008

Went thier last may 2007 just after the ski season & just before the summer. The hotel was nearly empty so it was nice & quiet. My wife is handicapped & the staff could not do enough for her.The main restaurant was closed but thier is a great little snack shop which serves soups & snacks &also milk & other sundries you can take to your room. The scenery was stunning & we saw moose & other wildlife everyday.A great bar & smokehouse called the mooses tail is just down the hill. The nearby town has some great shops &eaterys.I recomend the short drive to mount washington & also so the bison farm. All the staff at the hotel were so friendly we did not want to leave. We would recomend a stay at Jordans to anyone.

“Lovely Stay”

Jordan Grand Resort Hotel and Conference Center

21 Feb 2008

Having stayed at, and enjoyed, the SGrand Summit last year, the Jordan was very similar to the Summit, except that everything was newer.

The Ski in/out was great, but not for beginners. It was my second ski trip and I struggled with it at first. I am glad it was not my first trip or I would have found it impossible.

The service was very good, the staff courtious as ever. The resturant menu was not as good and varied as Legends at the Summit, but it was OK. It was a shame that Sliders was not open in the evenings as it was less formal than the restaurant. The breakfast gets a little tedious when you have the same thing for a week, but it's tasty and filling.

The room was adequately comfortable and clean. The bus shuttle service was excellant which was greatly needed during some very heavy snow which make the Jordan slightly cut off during bad weather.

All in all, another good experiece at Sunday River

Local Bars I would recommend: Gringo Harry's; Shipyard; Foggy Goggle (open til 6); Pheonix. I don't recommend the Matterhorn.

“Great lodge and ski resort”

Florida
14 Feb 2008

Visited Sunday River and stayed at the Jordan Grand on Feb 4/5, 2008. This hotel gives you the ski lodge feel that you are looking for at a great price, but do keep in mind that it is slightly older hotel. We had a studio deluxe w/ fireplace which was very clean, comfortable and spacious. Staff was amazingly friendly. We arrived at 9am on Monday and were able to check right into the room. The hotel was very quiet the days we stayed and seemed to cater more towards adults/couples. We had a great meal (ribeye and lamb ribs) at the Grand restaurant downstairs and had fairly decent breakfast at their buffet the following morning. Service at the restaurant wasn’t “resort” top notch type service by any means but the food was excellent and that’s all I cared about after a long day of skiing.

One thing to keep in mind is that this lodge is located in the Jordan Bowl of the ski slope so it is very convenient to ski in/out, but for very beginner skiers this location might be a little difficult. From the lodge down to the lift there is an immediate drop when you ski out of the hotel. Then the only route back to the lodge is to take the lift to the Jordan Bowl peak and ski down the Lallapalozza trail. This is a green trail but the drop in at the top is quite difficult. For skiers with limited abilities (umm…my wife) it can be very difficult.

Overall, this lodge far met our expectations. Just keep in mind this isn’t a five start type of “resort” and you’ll be more than content.

This hotel nestled in the mountains far surpassed my expectations. Not only was it First Class, but staff was very nice, even giving us a rollaway bed for child at no extra charge.

Impeccably clean w/lovely view from balcony. Huge stone fireplace in lobby. Excellent buffet dinner.

I highly recommend it!
