Enchanted Inn and pets welcome!
Nestled in a Sherwood-like forest of blue spruce, white pine, elm and oak, the Inn Britannia is like stepping into another world. From the walkways of English gardens, to the elegant tea room, tables set in lace, fresh flowers and tea services of Chinaware to die for, warmed in the glow of a wood fire in the huge fireplace, to the guest rooms done in British themes, so authentic,(right down to heated towel racks) I feel I am in Brighten, London, Nottingham, or Dover. And ever had a full English Breakfast? Pure Heaven! with fresh eggs from the Inn's hen house, popovers, fresh berries and fruits.
This has been my third stay at the Inn Britannia and each time it becomes more enchanting. Sometimes I visit the guest rooms available, simply to enjoy the antiques, the wonderful choices of color and decor, the collectibles, all brought back from Great Britain by the owners. The casual elegance is relaxing. Privacy is the best I've encounted over the years of staying in B&Bs and inns. Yet, there are several little nooks and getaways. There is wonderful game/den/TV/movie/computer room, a great place for the kids, or parents checking in on the computer. The living room is cushy and comfortable (read by the fireplace), the garden benches and hammocks are inviting and walks in the woods to the beach are a must.
A special plus is: the Inn takes pets. I stay with my dog in the London room, most cozy, done in burgundy and gold, with white trim, a queen- sized brass bed, piled with plush pillows, (one can never have enough pillows), a pedestal sink and lovely bath/shower, with the heated towel racks (but of course). The decoration and memorabilia are all from London and quite charming. There is a private front entry way for me and my buddy, the dog, a back door with mud a room leading out to a private deck. A fenced dog run is also available out back. The pathways through the woods are lovely dog-walks. Dogs are also welcome in the studio/guest room up stairs. It is equipped with a full kitchen, sleeps five or six, has wi-fi, cable, everything the other rooms have. I plan to stay there on my next trip, however, I am told that this studio is very popular with families, who stay over weeks at at time, and I should make reservations in a bit more in advance.
Overall, the Inn Britannia is a delight. From a sumptuous breakfast, to a good complimentary wine, port or sherry by the fire in the evening. It's close to everything Maine, water sports, hunting, birdwatching, hiking. and you can't beat the prices. My London room was $125.00 and I could not ask for more comfort, hospitality, amenities, dog-comfort, food (good heavens, you won't eat again until the evening), and rare, excellent service from caring hosts.
