Overall, my wife and I were very happy with our stay at the Sable Oaks, which was until very recently an Amerisuites Hotel. The hotel is currently under substantial renovation and is rumored to be in the process of conversion to a Holiday Inn. All of the rooms are slated for repainting and a number of them are unavailable at the moment because of the renovations. Some of the room numbers were off of the walls as a result. The pool is currently closed for renovation; guests are offered the opportunity to use the pool at the Marriott down the street (the same company owns both hotels). The room itself was very clean and perfectly pleasant, and came with a small refrigerator and a microwave oven. The television had subpar reception and a very limited channel selection. The setting is very attractive--grounds had nice flowers and trees, and the hotel is in a business park area that is quiet yet very close to the Maine Mall, Target and other shopping. Watch for the sign Sable Oaks (the name of the bus. park) off the main road; it's not marked very well as the place you need to turn to get to the hotel otherwise. We stayed here because it was handy to the Portland Jetport, where we had a very early flight. However, the advertised free breakfast is unavailable until 6:30--we missed it because our flight was at 6. Considering its location so close to the Jetport, I think they should offer this breakfast beginning absolutely no later than 5 am. The breakfast area is also under renovation and is a bit torn up now. One fine feature is that they offer a free shuttle on the half hour to the Jetport and offer "park and fly" privileges, allowing us to leave our car there while traveling over the weekend at no charge. Upon returning to Portland, a call on their courtesy phone near baggage claim brought the shuttle back.

When we got to the hotel we were supised at how nice it was for the price (a suite for 90 dollars). The pool was closed for renovations but they let us use the one at the marriot right next door. We had a great time until we woke up the next morning and discovered that there were ants ALL THROUGH THE BED. It was discusting. They were even crawling on our clothes when we left the hotel. I took pictures to prove it. We told the manager and ended up getting refunded, but it was still disgusting...we had to come home and wash all of our clothes. Don't stay here, it was gross...not worth it. Pay a few more dollars and get a room that's not infested with ants.

The room was big & clean. The pool was very nice & warm. Fitness room was nice. Beds could be better, but were not bad. My only problem was noice bounces off walls, so it's bad if you have a travel companion that snores!

Not so sure what all the bad reviews are about, and at least as of late, I wouldn't let them dissuade you from staying here. It's not the Ritz, but my room is clean, well furnished, and rather large. It's much less expensive than the Marriot across the street. The room is even appointed with a nice kitchenette. Am writing this on the hotel wireless. For the price, this is a great place. Perhaps I just lucked out with the room I got, but have had a great experience compared to the other reviewers.
