There are many things to like about Seawall Motel, but I had a fairly bad experience and I wasn't sure what rating to give it here.
The owners of the hotel are VERY nice and hands-on in all aspects of the operation of the hotel. They have definitely done a good job taking an older generic motel and turning it into a pleasant place.
The motel has 2 levels with entrances to each room directly from the parking-lot. There was a glimpse of a view across the street to the ocean. It is relatively close to Southwest Harbor (a short drive), so is actually on a very nice side of the island away from the chaos of Bar Harbor.
The room was clean and simply appointed. It was pretty large, and had a window in the back as well as the one in the front so you could actually get a breeze through the room. No real complaints with the room. Lots and lots of tv channels which are important if you can't sleep (see below).
The bad part of the hotel stay for me had to do with my neighbors. The walls are VERY VERY thin, so I could hear absolutely everything going on in the next room. For the first 2 nights, I was next to a very loud snorer (and he was generally loud at other things too) and hardly slept. The hotel was full, so I didn't see any point in asking for a change of rooms. I have no doubt that the hosts would have accommodated such a request if it were possible. The other problems with the rooms/ neighbors is that the hotel rooms are nonsmoking, but the balcony is not. So, there were neighbors that would sit/ stand on the balcony directly outside my room's window and smoke. So forget any sea breezes, I had to shut the windows. One woman even brought the bedding from her room outside to wrap around herself as she smoked. I'm not sure what the owers could have done to improve my experience (althouggh banning smoking on the balcony in an otherwise smoke-free motel would have helped). I don't imagine they could easily improve soundproofing.
We either woke up too late or woke up and left too early to try the continental breakfast (served between 7-9 AM), so I can't comment on that.
Price was a pretty good deal for the island at $110/ night.
