Great meal and view! Very prompt and attentive service from the host, to the server, to the busboy. The wine list is incredible and the server recommended two great bottles. My (Italian) grandmother would love this place (heck, my German Nana would, too) Can't wait to get back to Wells Beach and Varano's.
This is my favorite restaurant in all of Maine.

Food of good quality . However would like a choice of a few different "pastas" Spagettini /Angel hair I was told not available with my dinner choice. For me, disappointing. Prices are getting rather high on entres...and a house salad should be included. Hopefully when we return, I can choose my pasta. 4th visit .I'm an out of towner.

As someone who has spent the past 9 years living in Boston, I have come to expect to only find excellent Italian food at a reasonable price in the North End of Boston. Everywhere else that I have gone has either been underwhelming or at a much higher price point. Imagine my surprise when I had one of the best Italian meals that I had ever eaten at Varano's in Wells, Maine almost a year and a half ago. Everything that my fiancé and I ordered impressed us. The tomato sauce was among the best we have ever had, the chicken marsala was amazing, and the homemade gelato was to die for. Also, a hidden gem on the menu is the shrimp scampi appetizer, trust me. We were also absolutely blown away by the Italian Wine list, I can honestly say that I’ve never seen such an extensive collection of Italian Wine…WOW. Since that wonderful visit, we have been back to Varano's at least four times (its now a must stop on any visit to Maine), and have had a wonderful experience and meal each and every time. I would definitely recommend Varano’s to anyone visiting Wells, it’s ambiance makes it a wonderful place to go out on a date but friendly enough to bring the entire family.

When I ate my first meal at Varano's I knew that it would immediately become one of my favorite restaurants. Having grown up in an Italian family and spending most of my life seeking out the best Italian food in every city I have visited or lived in, I can confidently say that Varano's easily ranks among the best restaurants I've been to reguardless of price. The food, service, and atmosphere have always been fantastic. I would eat there daily if I could. (and I forgot to mention, the wine list is out of this world... and at a relative bargain compared to some places I've eaten in NYC and Boston.)
