Description: The Tidewater Grille – A Spectacular Setting. Nestled on the quiet banks of the lower Susquehanna in view of the headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay, the Tidewater Grille offers a spectacular setting in which to enjoy a relaxing meal, either on the outside decks, inside the 4-seasons porch, in the cozy dining room, or in the bar. Extensive use of glass and the open design of the restaurant ensure views of the water regardless of where you sit. The expanded bar and lounge features a Cruvinet wine bar, a complete selection of liquors, and a great variety of bottled beers and beers on tap. The menu selections appeal to customers seeking a finer dining experience as well as to those who want to “kick back” and enjoy a casual meal. Fresh seafood and local fare are menu mainstays. Live entertainment is presented Friday and Saturday evenings featuring jazz, classic rock, and ‘Americana’.

On a recent trip to the Northeast, we drove from Baltimore to Philadelphia to visit friends. Havre de Grace seemed to be the prefect place to pull off and explore a bit. We quickly followed the signs to the historic downtown and were so taken by a view of the water that we turned into a drive and followed it, finding the Tidewater Grille waiting at the end. The place looked so charming that we decided to stop for a bite to eat. So glad we did!!! We were warmly greeted upon entering and escorted to a marvelous table looking out on the view that attracted us in the first place. Our server, Roxanne, promptly came over and informed us of the specials and was so pleasant and was very open in making recommendations from the menu. We decided to have the Cream of Crab soup which was loaded with marvelous crab meat that was so very fresh and succulent. Our delightful server described the culinary creation of Susquehana Hash. Potatoes with beautiful crab meat and Tasso Ham topped with an egg. What a delight!!! The soup and hash were both packed with lots and lots of crab meat in large moist chunks and was so very, very fresh. It you find your way to Havre de Grace, you MUST stop at the Tidewater Grille for this fresh and wonderful food at amazinly low prices. I just hope you get Roxanne as your wait person, she is such a delight. We have eaten at many, many places in Maryland to enjoy the crab and are always amazed at the steep prices we encounter for minimal crab meat - not so at the Tidewater!

This is the Great American Average Restaurant. The menu options are plastic sealed pages of middling fare. The chairs are the hard straight back wood jobs from your 1968 grade school music room. The service is small town friendly.

Our lunch entrees were the specials. We started with Maryland Crab Soup and Cream of Crab. The Maryland lacked zing, but was otherwise satisfactory. The Cream of Crab was too thick, with a pasty consistency. The Shrimp & Scallop, sauteed with mushrooms and wine, came with two side dishes - an inedible lump of gummed rice devoid of taste and your basic steamed green beans. The Scallop Marsala entree was an uncreative combination.

Their price points are too high for the rest of the stock story. The view of the water, the Amtrak bridges and the soaring birds are nice. Walking out into the fresh air, we felt like soaring with them.

Went to Tidewater Grill for lunch. The location is great and the property well kept.
The food was at best , average. The price of the food $$$ did not match the quality of the food. I especially did not like the greasy bread plate that was at my seat.
I just opted for a Cobb salad which was small enough to be considered a dinner side salad. The rest of the food for our party was average. One bright note, the fries were nice.

Best thing about the place was the view, and we sat inside by a window, not even outdoors. But there are the boats, the lights on far shore, the marina, the bridge with the trains going by; very romantic. Candlelit tables. Food was pretty standard fare for a seafood place, most of it very good, just not outstanding in any ways except maybe the soup: menu described crab soup as "must-have," we agreed; good and creamy with sherry. Crab bites quite tasty. Husband had burger which was good meat, came w/great fries. Was not busy on the Wed eve we went, we had our pick of tables. Service a little slow, but that let us linger a bit in the great atmosphere. Felt prices were reasonable.

In short - a lousy way to celebrate my birthday. Made reservations - got put inside with a view of another dining room which had a view of a deck which overlooked the water. There was a guitar player in the bar which was connected to our dining room and was so loud we couldn't hear each other - so ate in silence. Food was served and the waitress vanished! The food was bland and very over priced. The worst part was how filthy the bathrooms were! Skip this place! (or demand a water view, go for lunch so you don't waste your money, and don't use the bathroom.)
