We stayed here for 4 nights and were very pleasantly surpised by the Resort.
Yes, it is large and sprawling but that is what a resort is. We stayed at the arbor Village; downside - a drive from the beach, upside - very close to the best pool on the site which suited the children.
Our spacious 1 bed apartment was on the ground floor and very smart. It was blissful walking out of the french windows on to the well kept grounds. We used the sofa bed which was fine.
The only problem with four in the room was the equipment. It did not cater for 4 and there was insufficient everything; chairs, glasses, plates, etc. At supper we had to bring the patio furniture inside for the children to eat at the coffee table!
The room service we could not fault. In fact they were a little too efficient and kept putting away the sofa bed which we had to remake when we got back. They loaded the dishwasher and replaced the washing powder. The beach/ pool service was great too, offering chairs, foot rests, towells & umberellas
The real godsend for our touring holiday was the laundry facilities which were wonderful. A small cupboard in the Sitting Room contained a top loader washing machine and a small tumble dryer. Coupled with the excellent beach/pool towell service this made this mother's life much more like a holiday.
We did not mind the reliance on the car to get around at all. We discovered Chatham (easy journey), the Brewster bike hire (much, much cheaper than the resorts!) and the local food and fish markets so I chose to cook (but see above for gripe about equipment).
For families there seemed to be an endless supply of activities which we would have loved to have the time to join in had we been spending longer here. The beach campfire with s'mores (is that how you spell it?) was a great taste of US for some bewildered Brits.
A number of disappointments were:
- Reception staff behind a high and forbidding desk who acted very superior. A stark contrast with the bell 'boys' who were very well mannered, groomed and spoken.
- Very expensive restaurants although the food was very good especially the breakfasts. We ate out or self catered after the first shocking bill.
- Brouchure not up to date. My 12 year old son was extremely disappointed to find the Junior Golf School not running.. when we turned up on the allotted morning.
- Petrol golf buggies. These are noisy, smelly and certainly not envionmentally friendly, especailly when there a lot of them, which there tend to be on a golf resort.
and finally...
- the damp. Our apartment had a dehumidifier and an air conditioning unit which I found a strange combination. It smelt damp and most things in it were ever so slighly damp too. But I put it down to location and did not notice too much after the first 5 minutes.
After all that, would we return? Absolutely, yes.
