“Great place to stay”

Inn at One Main

The Inn at One Main was a great place to stay the 2 nights I was there. Christi and Ray were extremely helpful in getting me acquainted with the local area and made a really good breakfast. I came from Boston by bus, to attend a conference in Woods Hole, and they helped me figure out the best way to get around the area without a car.

I was looking for literally just a bed to sleep in and some breakfast in morning, so when it comes to how the house was decorated or parking or traffic or anything like that, I couldn't care less so you should read other reviews if those things are issues for you. The room was much more spacious than I imagined from the picture, by the way. And it was the least expensive room I could get in the area that weekend, which admittedly was the deciding factor on me choosing it from the list of hotels here.

If you want a good place to rest and eat good food, which is run by friendly people, I definitely recommend staying with Christi and Ray at the Inn at One Main.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at The Inn at One Main with two other couples, and had a wonderful time. Christi and Ray are so friendly and helpful. The house is beautiful, filled with antiques and history. Very convenient location, we walked to town for dinner and shopping. Would definitely stay here again.

Wow! Not good, smelly, dusty, moldy rooms, solied carpets. We decided it wasn't for us so we left, well, they took our $200 deposit and charged our card another $200. Christi ( the owner) didn't want to hear it and was rude, basically saying "too bad". Contact the Chamber of Commerce, don't give a deposit and see the rooms first.

This review is obviously the result of someone who is upset about being charged for her cancelled reservation. At no time were we rude to these women and if you read the other reviews here we have a very clean & lovely inn. As far as “not wanting to hear it” we spent 30 minutes (per front door security video camera) talking with these women and several times we apologized for the seemingly harshness of our cancellation policy and tried to explain the reason for it.

The guests (3 sisters) made a guaranteed reservation in August for 2 nights in October. When they arrived at 12:30 pm and “wanted to see the room” we immediately got the feeling that for whatever reason they wanted to cancel their reservation. Upon seeing the room the guest confirmed our suspicion, she stated it was not was what she thought it would be and would we refund her deposit. We explained our cancellation policy to her which states reservations that are cancelled 14 days or less prior to check-in are subject to re-booking and the guest will be responsible for paying for any of the cancelled nights that are not re-booked. This is a fairly standard policy for the area and is clearly posted on our website. We tried to explain to them that during the 2 months we held this reservation for them we turned away several inquiries for this room on these dates. Since we are a small property we do not double book our rooms to cover possible cancellations and due to the shortness of our season we need to fill our rooms whenever possible.

Upon hearing that we would not refund their deposit this guest began producing one reason after another, and at first clearly stating “it was nothing wrong with the inn or our housekeeping”, on why they couldn’t stay here. One woman stated she had “severe allergies” and “would certainly be in the hospital by morning” if she slept here. After declaring that, they still requested if they were to stay one night would we still charge them for the second night? We asked them why they would risk their sister’s health and land her in the emergency room to avoid losing a $200 deposit? The attitude of these women went downhill from there so we then politely informed the women if they weren’t going to stay for the 2 nights that they needed to leave. The women finally left among threats of canceling the credit card, calling lawyers (a threat restated by the son of one of the women during a phone call later that day) and reports to inspectors.

“Nice, but noisy at the front of the Inn”

Inn at One Main

We stayed for 3 nights at Inn at One Main and enjoyed it.

Christi and Ray are very friendly and helpful. We wanted to go to Martha's Vineyard on the ferry, and Christi arranged the whole thing. She told us what time we would have to have breakfast to catch each ferry and told us where to walk to get the ferry shuttlle. She provided us with maps of the island and the main towns on the island, a ferry schedule, and the ferry tickets as well!

Their breakfasts are delicious and beautifully presented. They also provide refreshments (tea, coffee, hot chocolate) all day in the dining room. Christi let us store some food in her fridge and provided us with disposable plates, cups and cutlery for our picnic. She also offered to give us a ride to the beach, but we decided to walk instead along the Shining Sea Bikeway.

There was air conditioning both in the bedroom and in the dining room and also wireless internet access. The inn is very conveniently located for walking into Falmouth and getting to Woods Hole.

We stayed in the High Boy room. The room is beautifully furnished, with a comfortable bed. The ensuite bathroom was very nice too, with good quality shampoo, conditioner, body lotion etc. The only problem with the room was that it was a bit noisy, being at the front ot the Inn, which is on a busy intersection. We kept the windows closed and the air conditioning on, so that we had the hum of the air conditioner rather than the traffic noise to sleep to. We would recommend that you ask for a room at the back of the house if noise bothers you.

Other than the noise, we could find no fault at all in this bed and breakfast.

“Comfortable Inn - bring your own coffee!”

Several family members spent 3 or 4 nights at the Inn at One Main while attending a recent family reunion. While rooms might not be described as luxurious, they were large, clean and comfortable. Traffic is very heavy at a complicated intersection steps from the front entrance to the Inn. Shuttle buses and trucks heading for the Woods Hole ferry rumble by. With the windows closed and the a/c (window unit) on, we had no trouble sleeping. Our large, Turret Room, on the second floor featured a queen bed and a single bed tucked into a corner which would work well for a family traveling with a child. While the bathroom was squeaky clean and included all of the necessaries, the shower stall was about as small as I have ever seen.
Breakfast is served at a large, long dining table which facilitates friendly conversation. While the food was excellent, the coffee was so weak that it gave us the giggles. We had to trek down the street for real coffee after the meal! The owners are so pleasant and accommodating that we decided against speaking up about the coffee.
The location makes this a good, central base for exploring local attractions and is an easy, pleasant walk to downtown Falmouth.
There is a "For Sale" sign hanging at the entrance and new owners may make some changes. I do wish the present owners best of luck in the future as they really are lovely people!
