After reading previous reviews on the trip advisor and visiting the Babson's website I was expecting much more form this bed and breakfast. The room in which we stayed (I can't remember the name of it but it was on the ground floor) was filthy. The bathroom in particular was dusty and dirty (you needed to look on the tops of the tiles and the blinds to quite clearly see this) and quite frankly it needed a good dose of bleach. As for the shower curtain I avoided having to touch that at all costs!! The bath mat that you stepped on when getting out the shower was unhygienic and I dread to think how long it had been there as it smelt potent. The bed sheets smelt fusty ant there were bits in the bed (perhaps the muffin bunny had hopped in there and been nibbling cookies!) and down the sides of the sofa also contained bits and what looked like relics of old food droppings. Although the theme of the room is traditional an the antiques and ornaments are very nice, I think it needs a revamp as it is shabby and the old faded brown paisley bed linen was scary! The hospitality of the place is good and the muffins and pastries provided in the morning was a nice touch. As were the numerous different coffees and fresh milk provided, juice was also supplied in the fridge. It is such a shame that the guest house is let down by all the other bits. I noticed reading back through the previous reviews that they were all from some time ago and nothing from really recent, it makes you wonder whether the cleaning standard and maintenance has just slipped. Even so I think it is paramount that a room should at least be kept in a hygeinic condition.

We stayed at this unusual B&B for 3 nights in August. The house overlooks Gloucester harbour (the picturesque part) and the famous statue of the 'Man at the wheel'. Each suite in the house is named after a person connected with the history of the house. We stayed in The Fitz J Babson Suite. This had direct access to the street which meant that we didn't have to trail luggage through the house. The house is described by the 'Yankee Magazine' as 'Architectural whimsy and frank elegance.' To get to our room from the lobby you had to go through a bookcase complete with books! The suite was equiped with fridge (stocked with milk and juice) a microwave, coffee maker crockery and cutlery. Each morning a basket of fresh muffins, pastries and croissants was left in a basket outside our room by the 'Muffin Bunny'

Booked a room for a long weekend getaway and on the recommendation of Paul (owner) stayed in the William Friend suite. The room was described to me as "the most beautiful thing I have ever designed". I couldn't agree more. As we had the good luck to be the only guests at the time we were given a tour of the various rooms. I would be ecstatic over the opportunity to stay in any of them. Our room could only be described as tastefully eclectic. It was very comfortable and immaculately maintained. The Muffin Bunny's offerings were delicious and Paul’s company alone is worth the stay. I would highly recommend that anybody who has the opportunity visit.

Went to Boston, Cape Anne, and the "other" cape (Cod) over Thanksgiving week. Were originally going to stay one night at Babson Court but loved it so much we stayed two. We didn't want to leave but had a Thanksgiving dinner with friends and relatives at the "other" cape, so we had to move on. Great location on the waterfront, only a short walk to downtown and the fishing docks, etc. Paul the proprieter was most gracious, nice, funny and had all kinds of stories about the history of the Inn (built in the 1700's I believe).
The house is filled with antiques, eclectic art and it seems every piece has a great story behind it. Also, the Inn can be divided up in different ways to accomodate different sizes of families. There's even a secret passageway or two!
I can't say enough good things about the Inn at Babson Court. I discovered it on TripAdvisor and will definitely be back next time I'm passing through Gloucester. Maybe by then I'll be able to pronounce the muffin bunny's name correctly!

I booked the Cut Stevens room for a weekend getaway, and enjoyed it
immensely. I got to the inn in the evening, just as the sun was
setting, and even though it wasn't over the sea in front of the inn, it
made for a beautiful scene.

The room was very comfortable, tastefully
furnished with antiques, and with quite a lot of amenities like a
coffee maker, mini fridge, microwave oven, etc. As the inn is located
right off the main road that goes along the sea, there was some traffic
noise throughout the night, but it was very minor. Comfortable beds,
plenty of covers, very very nice.

When you go, watch out for the Muffin Bunny -- the ghost of a 1700's descendant of a pet rabbit that came over from England. I think.. I'm sure that if you ask Paul, one of the owners, he'll gladly tell you the story.
