I had heard about the castle from relatives that had visited here so I couldn't wait to see it for myself. It can be a bit difficult to locate, but once you are there you are immediately drawn in for an adventure. Please allow several hours to explore every niche and staircase and to read all the plaques. Even my daughters (11 & 12) enjoyed exploring the castle and the grounds. I personally fell in love with the courtyard and the ocean view when I stepped around the back of the castle.
After visiting the castle we headed north looking for a place for lunch but stopped to explore the Stage Fort Park. The girls and my hubby had fun climbing the boulders and looking for shells among the seaweed covered rocks. From here we took a short drive north into Gloucester where we took pictures of the Fisherman statue and ate at a roadside stand across the street. Our lunch of clam strips, crab cakes and crab salad sandwiches while sitting on the front deck with an unobstructed view of the ocean was fabulous.
My boyfriend took me to Hammond Castle in November 2003 for my birthday and it was wonderful!! I was in awe! The views from the castle were breathtaking and I loved exploring all the rooms and winding staircases. The Great Hall was amazing and no photo seems to do it justice...you have to be there to really experience it. The "pool room" was very interesting....just to think, Mr Hammond could make it rain in there whenever he chose! There was only one suit of armor on display when we were there and I would have loved to see more but the castle is beautiful. I am so looking forward to going back next month for the King Arthur festival. My son can't wait to go either!
The day we visited the castle it was closed. The castle was being prepared for a wedding. We were able to see some of the outside areas, which are gorgeous ... as for the wedding .. it must have been a fairy tale come true!
We visited Hammond Castle in November 2002. To our sorry, the castle was closed the week we were in Mass. but we loved being there. Took some great pictures and had a lovely conversation with the woman who lives next door. Can't wait to visit when it's open!
