This resort, one of several Vacation Villages across the U.S., consists of a large club house (with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, exercise and games rooms, and free computers in the lobby), surrounded by 20 residence buildings, each containing either 8 or 12 double condo units, each of which consists of a very large one-bedroom unit (designated as "A") and a smaller lockoff unit (called "B" or "C", depending on size), so that when combined the two form a two-bedroom unit. The "A" units have full kitchens, while the "B" and "C" units have partial kitchens. On each floor there are free washers and dryers.
The resort is situated at the top of a steep hill, across a narrow valley from the Jiminy Peak ski slopes. A car is essential for sightseeing or shopping; Pittsfield, the largest nearby town, is about 20 minutes south by car. There is no restaurant at the resort, so buy your own groceries before your arrival.
All rooms in our "A" unit were huge and well furnished and decorated. Supplies include dish and dishwasher detergent, coffee, filters, kleenex, soap, etc., but no cosmetics. Towels are replaced free at mid-week. Our problems began when we were put in unit 1205A. There was a constant smell of burnt bacon grease, which we traced to a greasy kitchen floor. We also found the king bed very soft and lumpy. The next day we asked to be transferred, and were moved to 2106A, which was immaculate and had a firm but comfortable bed. A problem with the water heater was resolved by replacing the mixer valve. The front desk staff and the maintenance crew responded promptly and efficiently to all our requests, except when we asked for a teapot (which, despite the number of Canadian and British guests, was unavailable).
Our stay was an RCI exchange. Although we usually refuse the invitation to attend sales meetings, we accepted the offer of a free breakfast at Zucchini's Restaurant in Pittsfield and a $90 VISA gift card. Although this Vacation Village is a "weeks" resort, we were pressured to convert our weeks to the "points" system, which would have doubled our available points, but which we declined because it would have required buying into Vacation Village's home resort in Orlando, FL and paying another annual maintenance fee.
This resort merits its Gold Crown rating, and we look forward to revisiting the Berkshires in the autumn, when the fall foliage will be at its best.
