we tried to contact the proprietor of this B&B multiple times before we left boston, but since he didn't call us back after our messages, we drove up there anyway, (guessing that if it didn't work out, we could find another place pretty easily, which we did).
the location of the inn was BEAUTIFUL. totally private, long, picturesque driveway, away from the main area of Lee, beautiful fields and views. A wood stove was burning inside.
However! When we arrived, there were several people in the common room but not guests-- friends, I guess. The proprietor was at home, but basically just wanted us to leave-- he did not feel, apparently, compelled to explain to us why he was not in the B&B business at this time. He basically ushered us out very quickly and that was that.
after the long drive up to Lee, we would have liked a bit more explanation or at least some sort of small apology for the fact that neither his answering machine message and website said anything about Hawksmeadow being closed for the season (or forever?).
The location is great, and if you can reach him on the phone, I think it might be worth another shot, because who wouldn't want to go hiking with llamas? sounds so fun! But his customer service skills need a bit of work!
