My fiance and I spent a weekend with another couple and everyone loved it.

We all had massages, although pricey, well deserved and relaxing. The spa facility is clean, the staff was courteous and overall the spa was a pleasant experience.

Our rooms were new, spacious, clean and comfortable. We all stayed in the townhouse located close to the porperties Tavern.

The restaurant was delicious. Everyone raved about the food. I enjoyed my steak and the wine that I chose to chase it down. The wine list was extensive. I f you love wine, you'll love the list.

Our "Mini" getaway had only one hitch which was resolved within minutes. Our friends were given the wrong key and once we called a Cranwell employee arrived within minutes.

I will certaintly go back to the Cranwell, as will my friends.

We held our daughters wedding at Cranwell in October. From the start, the staff (Chris, Samantha) were fabulous with handling details. We attended a tasting about 2-3 months prior and thought the food was superb.

Day of the wedding. Well it's fall in New England and the sun was shining with temps about 65. Cranwell looked great and the views were astounding. Held an outdoor cocktail reception, open bar and passed hors d'ouevres. Wait staff was extremely attentive and the quality of this food was incredible and plentiful. Dinner food was just OK, salad course was excellent, ravioli were either hard or soft, nothing in the middle. Entree's were so-so. The biggest disappointment was the bar service. Wines we had selected or told would be available were not and the bill for open bar was not detailed. Negotiating for a detailed bill afterward became the biggest nightmare ever.

For the price they charge for food, should have been much better quality and please do watch the choice of open bar by consumption. Could have found same quality food and views as nice at several other Western Ma venues for about 50% less.

Very odd layout - buildings are far removed from each other and can be better described as a campus vs. a resort. We had two rooms between various family members, no attempts were made to give us adjoining rooms despite us asking. The one room had a smell of urine upon arrival, the second room had a very drafty door that shook all night long. On the second night, fellow guests held a bachelorette/bachelor party in our hallway and when security was called they arrived quickly but were ineffective in doing anything about the situation. They were simply asked to "keep it down." No one in our family got any sleep as a result and the next day staff simply claimed that they had no way of knowing the wedding guests were going to hold a party. While staff at the hotel restaurant were friendly, the food was average. The spa services were excellent and the fitness center is clean and well stocked. However, the overall experience did not live up to "resort" standards and was not worth the price.

“Wonderful spa get away”

Cranwell Resort, Spa & Golf Club

We chose this hotel for a ladies spa weekend and had a wonderful time. I was surprised by so many of the negative reviews in that we felt the spa, meals and service were all very good. We look forward to our next visit.

We took full advantage of the spa and spent all day working out, lounging by the pool, using the steam and jacuzzi and getting treatments. The staff was courteous and the spa was well maintained. Our treatments were all excellent. I wasn't thrilled with the pool area in that it felt very industrial and there was a lot of chlorine in the pool. I didn't like that there weren't more places to lounge after steaming or getting in the jacuzzi. Also, if you wanted a snack or a soda it was difficult to obtain without leaving the spa. However, when I went to the front desk, in my robe, they called in an order from the tavern and had it delivered to the spa.

Our package included dinner at Sloanes. We requested credit to eat in the main dining room and they gladly allowed us to do this. The atmosphere is much nicer with a better menu.

Our room was very spacious and clean. We thought it was a great value for the spa package.

My wife and I stayed at the Cranwell 8 years ago before we had kids and had a great time. We were a little concerned to return with our 2 children (8 and 19 mos.) based on the formality of the resort and the bad reviews on this site.

However, we were thrilled with our experience, and cannot understand the low ratings given to this property which is one of the best within 3 hours of NYC. We stayed in a two room suite (which most of the rooms outside the main house/castle are) in the Olmstead building and had plenty of room.

The suite had a large bedroom with king size bed and TV, a hallway with sink and refrigerator and a living room with queen size sleeper, TV and room for another bed/crib. Our 8 yr old son slept on sleeper and the baby in a Pack and Play with plenty of room for both. The bathroom was clean, good size and stocked with plenty of high-end products.

The front desk staff , valets and concierge were helpful and there was always a roaring fire in the lobby. Since our last visit, they installed a large, indoor pool, an extensive spa (where my wife had 2 great massages) and indoor, heated hallways connecting most areas. They even provided complimentary shuttle service throughout the resort.

We ate breakfast in the Music Room which consisted of an expansive buffet with a fresh egg station for $17.95 per adult. Even though we had a toddler, the staff went out of their way to be helpful and nothing was a problem for them. They had plenty of highchairs and booster seats and were happy to accomodate any request. We also ate dinner there one night and it was fantastic. The restaurant is one of the best in the Berkshires.

Other than the fact that it is expensive ($345 per night), there was nothing not to like about the hotel. We are looking forward to returning next year.
