It was suppose to be a 1 yr wedding celebration without worry or frustration, an escape from reality and work. Instead it was full of frustration from beginning to end. Marblehead is a beautiful area and we really enjoyed the Landing restaurant - the owner went above and beyond to welcome us to his hometown. But, Oceanwatch B & B had just the opposite effect - the customer service was horrible. We were welcomed w/ a quick hello, credit card scan & have a good night. The majority of BB's we visited offer some sort of happy hour or social hour w/ wine and snacks. A great time to meet the inn keepers and ask questions about the area but we were greeted by no such activity. Once settled in and a nights sleep, we were excited about the possibility of breaksfast since B&B's are known for homecooked meals. Of course, breakfast was the same as our greeting - plain, cold & a disappointment. They left out muffins, cereal & juice - I have never been offered this kind of poor service. My past experiences have served french toast, pancakes and many gourmnet items. Not to drown on and on, I do not recommend this B& B - it does no justice to Marblehead.

We were so thoroughly disappointed at our recent stay here that we ended up staying one night only and forfeiting the $185 for the second night's stay.

The website shows an impressively large house with great water views but doesn't let on that the guests only have access to a small part of the house in the back. The owners occupy 80% of the house exclusively while the guests are relegated to a separate back entrance with a narrow staircase-- a la servant's quarters.

One of the owners (the husband) was extremely cool upon our check-in and we felt highly unwelcome right away. His wife, Diane, was somewhat friendly but we were so disppointed in the set-up. The common space was basically a hallway with some small tables and chairs--without any couches or upholstered chairs to sink into. It was so uncomfortable and unwelcoming that we ended up at the mall half an hour away--not what we had in mind for a getaway to beautiful Marblehead.

The bedrooms, refurbished in 2006 according the website, was done up in tired florals, the floors were all carpeted wall-to-wall and everything felt like leftovers from the Laura Ashley heydays of the 1980's and 1990's.

The place I would recommend highly is Notorious Annie's--a beautiful place with large rooms, great views and an actual living room/dining room that the guests use--along with an extremely friendly and engaging owner, Janet. This is where I'm staying the next time--You definitely get your money's worth there but not at the Ocean Watch B&B, which is really a rooming or boarding house that should be charging $75 or $85 a night.
