Great place over all but pricy.... is it worth it?....Yes at least once... and its worth it to find out. Not a bit of tacky anything anywhere. A bit of tongue in cheek here and there but overall just very nice and warm with out sappy. with round the clock outdoor hot tub and pool. Some staff could use a bit of coaching on the hospitality end.

North Adams is kind of empty with a couple of high end restaurants but MA MOCA is the big draw and for one or two nights its good to get off the beaten path and into a comfy and inviting hotel. Is someone else doing this kind of thing for less?..... that would be nice. DVD rentals for free -- walk to "everything" (see above)-- bike or cruise around the area for some local culture if you have to have a break from the just too darn nice / hip decor....

I grew up in this town and can remember when these buildings were one step away from being condemned. Not only were these gorgeous buildings saved, they were renovated with extreme care and attention to detail! The rooms are gorgeous, well appointed and have just the right amount of quirk. The bed was a dream. One of my fave things: the climate control system was SILENT. We used both the heat and the air during our stay- our room was always at the temp we wanted and we never had to hear it cycle on or off.

The breakfast was great- the best "continental" I've had--- hearty bread with Vermont cheddar, boiled eggs, organic yogurt, pastries, cereal, granola, fresh juices, coffee, tea, hot chocolate. It was all wonderful!

We were travelling with our 8 month old and thought it was great that all the families we saw around the inn were in the same building as us. Great planning on the part of the staff!

We booked the geocaching package for four (two rooms). I was told they had no rooms at the advertised rate and I would have to upgrade for $60 more, I agreed but the reservation agent told me only one room at the $60 rate the next would be $120 more! I asked why she wouldn't give me more than the inn was booked and they were the only rooms left, as it was a gift I figured I would grab those and try to get more answers from someone who could help me. I called several days later with no better results. I checked on the reservations the day before arrival, and found out no one at the desk knew anything about the geocaching package and said they only had one GPS unit ! I asked for the manager and was told he was not in but would call me back . The desk attendant did tell me he would honor the advertised rate, I never heard from the manager and when we checked in the next day, he made himself scarce. The rooms were smaller than I had confirmation of and when we check out I asked the desk why we didn't get the suite we were confirmed to have the desk told me I got the lower rate because I asked for it (what happened to " We only have two rooms left at higher prices."?)
The GPS unit wasn't working properly and gave the wrong coordinates. It's a good thing the area is so beautiful because the staff at Porches did little to make us feel as if we were there guests. Being awakened by children crying at 6:15 am both mornings was no treat either , I'm glad we weren't facing the road to hear the trucks driving by as well.
Porches is a very nicely decorated inn, but for the money they need to do alot more by way of fulfilling their commitments to their advertising and their hospitality

My wife and I stayed at Porches Inn for our one year anniversary. We picked this hotel based on our research on Tripadvisor and by browsing the websites of several hotels in the Berkshires.

Our hotel stay was a very nice one. First thing that we noted is that Porches Inn is very unique in the architecture of its buildings, and the layout and design of the rooms.

The bedroom was of normal hotel room size. We were a little disappointed that we could not get a room with balcony, even though the hotel was not near capacity from Sunday-Tuesday (we checked-in on a Saturday).

The bathroom was very spacious and filled with nice amenities. It also had some natural sunlight come in from the window that led out to the hallway of our floor - which had skylight windows on the ceiling.

The staff was friendly. The internet service in the room was free. The front desk also had a huge selection of DVDs that one can play in the DVD player in each room. DVDs can be borrowed without a fee as well.

Porches Inn is located on the northside of North Adams, and within a short walk to Mass MOCA. After driving through most of the towns in the Berkshires, I'd say North Adams is at most on the average side of places to visit in the Berkshires. We came across many more picturesque towns in the Berkshires as we drove through. The plus to North Adams is that its closeby to VT - Bennington, Manchester, etc.

North Adams also doesn't have that many restaurants, although we enjoyed our dinner at Gramercy Bistro nearby.

We had booked Porches in advance - being the first night of a fly-drive holiday from NY.
The hotel room was clean, functional and very well-presented (if a little dark). Porches consists of around 7 buildings along a quiet street. We paid around $200 for the room which appears slightly over average compared to similar hotels in the area.
There was a continental breakfast included - much better than your average 'stale croissant!' - cereal, fresh fruit, granola, yoghurt, toast etc and even coffee to take away.
Overall very nice hotel, shame about the area. North Adams is a great place to start the Mohawk Trail but was lacking in atmosphere on an evening.
