Booked a room for a Friday / Saturday stay in mid October mostly because the price was very reasonable compared to other properties in the area.
The Hotel itself was easy to find and looked nice enough... nothing looked outwardly wrong with it on the drive-up. We were given a ground-level room and upon first opening the door we were hit with an absolutely overwhelming smell like cleaning products and super concentrated sickly-sweet air freshener mixed with stale cigarette smoke. This wasn't your garden-variety odor... this was really overpowering. The kind that gives you a headache immediately.
We let the room air out for a while, and then left for the evening with the air circulating... but it was just as bad or worse when we got back a few hours later.
The front desk person seemed to be very accomodating in moving us to a different room when we requested it... but on the way back from the front office we ran into the people who were moving out of the room they had given us... they were moving out to get away from the smell.
So... we asked again but this time they had nowhere to move us to. Again the person at the front desk was very accomodating. They refunded our money without penalty fairly late at night when they had obviously booked to near capacity, so I will give them credit for that.
All of the rooms that seemed to be plagued with the smell problems seemed to be ground level rooms, so I'm wondering if they were, at some point, flooded and the odor was air freshener used in attempt to cover the mildew or whatnot in the carpet.
Might be a good place to stay if you get a room higher up on the property, I'm not sure.
