Upon arrival, we found that the brochure didn't do the room justice. It didn't mention all the extra amenities, such as the bugs, the filth, the rust, the lack of privacy...
When settling in on first night, we started noticing little issues. We first found that our room had small mite-like bugs in the bathroom, in the bed, on the ceiling and on the drapes. Since we didn't find the bug problem until the evening, and since the front desk closes at 8:00 p.m., we had nobody to complain to so we spent the night taking turns standing guard against the critters.
First thing next morning, we told the front desk about the insect issue, but when their maintenance crew finally checked out our room (we'd gone into town by then), they said they didn't see any bugs so, gee, guess we were wrong. That was their answer. The owners could not be found and the front desk said we could not get our money back ($286.00 per night plus tax) for the 2nd prepaid night. Instead, they offered to move us to another room, but wouldn't there be bugs there too? We were so disgusted with the whole ordeal, and so exhausted from not having slept, that we determined it was best to just leave and try to salvage what we could of our vacation.
On the whole, they had some nerve renting out this room to begin with. The bathroom was antiquated with rusty old lighting, bulbs missing, a horrible showerhead and a rotting window frame. The room's drapery was falling down, dirty and ugly, but we had to use them to cover the 9 foot windowed wall (floor to ceiling) that allowed passersby on the walkway next to our room a great view our personal effects, our bed and us. The front 6 foot picture window had a lovely view of the harbor, if you could see it through the sunbathers a few feet in front of us on the broken down sundeck. Of course, to see the sunbathers, you had to overlook the septic sytem's piping which laid a foot below our window but well within view. The blue cloth on the sundeck was not secured to the deck so it bellowed up badly, nearly sending me off my feet as I attempted to traverse it on my way to the front desk to ask for a bar of soap for the bathroom. Charming really... The owners should be ashamed of themselves for falsely advertising this as a "resort."
