Three of us dined on a week night at the Blue Heron and were pleased with all aspects of the experience. My favorite dish is jsut about anything with salmon, so I ordered a delicious salmon filet with perfectly steamed broccolli and couscous. One of the other 2 diners also ordered the salmon, and the other ordered a pork dish. Both said that their meals were delicious, too. We ordered appetizers, too, and were equally pleased with the quality. Our server was attentive and unobtrusive: She checked on us twice, and filled our glasses w/o being asked. About 10 minutes after our plates had been cleared and we had finished our cafe, she brought the check. We talked for about another 15 minutes, she refilled our cups, and then we paid the check. Delicious food, professional service, nice atmosphere!

A treasure in the heart of New England countryside. Love the salmon and creative hors d'oeuvres. Beautiful ambiance and love the service staff. Bartender mixes a mean Harvey Wallbanger

The Blue Heron has been on my list of places to dine for over a year, but I just made it there tonight and I wonder why more people aren't raving about it. Maybe they want to keep it a secret. Tonight was a Wednesday, yet most tables in the large restaurant were occupied. My usual dining partner, a niece who's a UMass student, and I enjoyed the easy-to-find and convenient location, the setting (a chic restoration of the old Sunderland town hall), the knowledgeable and prompt service, and the creatively prepared and delicious food. I had seen the previous negative review and mentioned it to our waiter (Jean Pierre). He said that there had been a period when some waitstaff were not up to snuff, which might have explained some poor service. Please give this place another try. You won't be disappointed.

We have been to the Blue Heron several times but our recent visit will be our last. The food was as good as always but the service was so horrible the meal was not enjoyable. Took friends for a birthday dinner and were totally embarassed.
We were seated for 20 minutes before someone ever came over to pour water and get a drink order and that was after asking for assistance from the host. It was obvoius that there were not enough wait staff and no bussers to help. Our waitress was abrupt on top of being absent too much of the time.
Once a favorite but won't go back.
