“Nice Find”

Fairfield Inn Boston/ Tewksbury

This is a nice little property, a bit far from Boston, but a very good value. And since it was a weekend, traffic wasn't an issue.

It's in a quiet location, off I-495, but far enough away that you won't hear it. When I checked in, the nice lady at the desk told me up front that they had two groups of kids there, but made it clear that she wouldn't be tolerating any noise or other nonsense. She clearly made good on that! She also handed me a big bag full of goodies for Marriott Rewards members -- a nice touch.

The room was clean and comfy. Not the Ritz, but certainly well worth the $62.

On my first attempt to get breakfast, one of those groups was there, so I didn't even get out of the elevator. When I returned 45 minutes later, they were gone, but the food had clearly been replenished.

Anyone looking for a place to get a decent night's rest without paying a fortune should do well here.

“A second great stay at the Fairfield Tewksbury!”

We have stayed at this Fairfield Inn in Tewksbury for two separate trips to Boston (once in June 2007, and again last week) and have only great things to say!

The hotel offers great rates (and even better Marriott Rewards points redemption since it is only a Category 1 location) and is a very good choice for Boston on a budget. We have had the king room with a rollaway bed and found it to be sufficient space for a family with 2 young children.

The hotel is not "fancy", but is very clean and the employees are friendly and helpful. The standard complimentary breakfast is available in the morning, and coffee and Kashi cookies are available 24/7. A computer with printer is also provided in the lobby for guests.

The hotel is located near (within 10-15 min. driving distance) two MBTA commuter rail stations (Lowell and North Billerica) that allow you to go to the city without having to drive in all that traffic. The hotel is on the 495 loop, so it is removed from the really crowded inner beltway. We flew into Portsmouth, NH on Skybus, and that enabled us to completely avoid heavy Boston traffic since the hotel is on the north-end of the metro area.

We stayed here on a Thursday night and when we arrived around 10pm, there was a large group of loud teenagers in the parking lot who proceeded to check in. The room, however, was quiet and we didn't hear them the rest of the night. Our room was on an upper floor and the first thing we noticed when we stepped off the elevator was the unpleasant smell. It smelled old and stale and almost like a chemical, but not a cleanser. The room could have been cleaner, the sink had hairs in it. The sink was outside the bathroom, which is convenient, but there was no sink in the bathroom. There was an outdoor pool which was lit up brightly at night and we had an excellent view of it from our room. No one was using it and we could see it wasn't clean at all. The bed could have been more comfortable, it was a bit bouncy.

We liked that they offered breakfast and it was included in the price. There was a decent selection of cereal, yogurts, fruit and one waffle maker. I read another reviewer had bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches and oatmeal at breakfast. Those weren't offered when we were there and without the waffles, it would have been a bit skimpy. We were at breakfast at 8:30am and we stayed for a half hour, and no extra items were brought out, but they did replenish what was there. The breakfast room was a little small, so it became a bit crowded. We did not see the same kids from the night before at breakfast, but a nice mix of families, couples and business travelers. The service at the hotel was okay, not exceptionally friendly. The hotel's best asset is its convenient location. It is just off 495, a good place to stop if you are passing through. The rate was reasonable, $99 a night. Overall though, because the hotel just wasn't clean enough, we wouldn't recommend it.

“Perfect place outside of Boston!”

Fairfield Inn Boston/ Tewksbury

We stayed at the Fairield Inn Boston/Tewksbury on August 11 and 12, 2007. The Front Desk staff were incredibly efficient. In the Roomsaver Hotel Discount Flyers, it was only $72/night. The room was spotlessly clean, the sink was outside of the bathroom, lots of toiletries, clean bathroom, comfortable beds, big tv, lots of space in the room! The continental breakfast (included) was awesome! Make your own waffles, Egg, Cheese and Bacon Sandwiches, Cereal, Oatmeal, Fresh Fruit, Milk, Juice, Yogurt, Coffee, Tea complete the breakfast. This was the best continental breakfast we had ever had in a hotel like this! The outdoor pool looked great, but unfortunately it was only open 9-9, so we didn't get to go in, as we traveled to Downtown Boston. Traveling Downtown is simple. Ask the Front Desk person for directions to either the Lowell or North Billerica Commuter Rail Stations (North Billerica is closer, and cheaper) - both stops are of equal distance from hotel. Check the mbta for schedules on the Lowell line. I would recommend that anyone stay here, because it was clean, comfortable, and a great deal!

“Nice place to stop for the night”

Fairfield Inn Boston/ Tewksbury

This hotel was a great little hotel to stop at for the night as we were just passing through this area on the 495 highway heading to southern Massachusetts. Our stay was on September 25th, 2006

It is close to 2 commuter rail stations if you prefer to take these into Boston instead of driving.

The rooms are nice and clean, we stayed at the Residence Inn a few hundred feet away several years ago which wasn't as clean so we were satisfied with the cleanliness here which is very important. The rooms aren't fancy, but are perfect if you are looking for an affordable, comfortable, clean place to stay for the night. Even though the hotel is quite close to the highway, I wasn't bothered by noise at all, we had a very quiet stay here.

Front desk agents (three of them) upon check in appeared to be busy doing paperwork or reports or something, we were the only guests there, they were not very friendly and it seemed like we were not welcomed. They weren't rude but not as friendly and helpful as the other hotels we stayed at during our 6 day trip. We did need directions to the commuter rail station but decided not to ask as they didn't appear very open to conversation. There is a computer in the front lobby with internet access, as well as a printer provided (which wasn't working) so we took advantage to use this to find Mapquest directions to the commuter rail station instead.

Breakfast ends far too early in my opinion, so we didn't have a chance to have breakfast at the hotel.

If you are heading south from this hotel, be sure to check out the Wrentham Factory Outlets (there is a brochure downstairs in the lobby). These factory outlets are nice and have good prices compared to some of the more "pricey" factory outlets. They are located approx. an hour south of the hotel, maybe a bit less depending on traffic. Also, if travelling north...Salem, NH is about 20 minutes away, exit 1 on the I-93 will take you to big box stores such as Kohls, Target, AC Moore, etc. and plenty of restaurants, etc located along this street. The mall in Salem is another exit, possibly exit 2, we didn't go there this time, but did a few years ago, just a large mall full of the same stores as every other mall, nothing special.

    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — If you're "stopping" in off the highway, use a coupon from the Traveller coupon book you can find at McDonalds or at roomsaver.com
