We received a bed and breakfast gift card for our weddng and decided to stay at this highly rated bed and breakfast in Vineyard Haven. My wife and I were so glad it was free because if we paid, it would have been robbery. The location is not bad, sittng on top of the hill from the downtown area of Vineyard Haven and what ever you do, dont take a cab from the ferry. We took one and we could have walked and it was a rip off and they got lost to boot. The place is a regular under construction suburban house with a pool but something out of the 1970's with shabby interiors and just an all around mess of an inside. The inn keeper tries to hide the shabby quality but the furnishings are dated and old and falling apart. The set up is a disarray of rooms and apartments that are furnished with cheap furnitiure and rugs and uncomfrotable beds. The rooms were filthy and the bathrooms were nasty. The steet it sits on is quiet and but is tucked a ways back. The breakfast served was trying to be good but was lacking quality. the place really should close down and not boast being a 5 star bed and breakfast because it is far from it. There are so many places to stay on this island, if you are going to spend the money, you can do a lot better than this spot. It is a downright rip off for the quality. Skip it.

I can't believe anyone would have anything other than a marvelous experience with Bill and Holly Carter at the High Haven B&B in Vineyard Haven!!

Edgartown is too expensive and Oak Bluffs is full of rowdies, this however, was a perfect, quiet place, tucked up the hill from the downtown of Vineyard Haven.

Yes, High Haven is a little walk from the ferry, but expensive? Please. Price compare and you'll find there isn't a better deal for a B&B on all of Martha's Vineyard.

Our room was lovely, I've never slept better away from home. Bill and Holly were extraordinary hosts, filling us with good conversation, lots of laughter, recommendations for restaurants, and sinfully delicious breakfasts out by the pool.

My husband and I would go back again in a heartbeat - and we encourage you to give this B&B a visit - all the stunning comments in our room's guest book indicate that many others felt the same way we did. Welcome.

It was like staying in someone's grandparent's suburban home which hasn't been updated since the 70’s. The carpets are dingy, the rooms smell, the bathrooms aren't clean. This place is NOT a nice inn and you don't feel like you're on vacation on an island. You feel like you’re staying in someone’s teenager’s bedroom while they’re away at college. And all that for a $250 price tag! We paid almost $600 for two nights and I'm still in shock that we were ripped off so badly.

The host was very nice and the breakfast was good but the place is a RIP OFF. I can’t believe that he could smile at us every morning knowing that he was charging us so much for so little. $70 for those rooms would be too much. It's disturbing that someone could take such advantage of their guests simply because they can get away with it. They claim that they're trying to improve the place since buying it in 2003, but if they keep overcharging their guests and misrepresenting this place as a high end hotel, they will be out of business before they know it.

I've stayed at many hotels on MV over the past 15 years and I've never had such a bad experience. There is a HUGE difference between this place and other hotels on the island. You would be better off at the MV campground – camp out or rent their cabins and you will have a much better island experience.

The web site makes it look nice and the Chamber of Commerce may recommend it but DO NOT STAY HERE. I wish I had read the reviews online before I booked it. Hopefully I can prevent someone else from making the same mistake we did.

“Great people, great food, great stay”

A death in the family left my girlfriend's family scrambling to find a place to stay on the Island over 4th of July weekend. Despite the last minute notice, Bill, the husband half of the owneship team helped us out and could not have been kinder. We stayed in the Bayberry apartment and the accomodations were very clean and well maintained. I only got a chance to have breakfast once but was amazed by the how god the food was. it was the best I had on the Island (juice, coffee, fresh fruit, and awesome blueberry french toast). I cannot overemphasize how friendly the staff was or how concerned they were with making sure that we had a great stay. Thank you Bill and Holly

“A very nice spot in Vineyard Haven”

High Haven House

We just returned from a three night stay at the High Haven House and we certainly found it to be far from "hell". Bill, the owner, could not be nicer or more accomodating and the rooms (we stayed in two) were really beautiful and spacious - clean and not musty at all. Breakfasts (included, of course) by the pool were a real treat - a special omlette one morning, followed by french toast with peach preserves and then a yogurt parfait with fresh fruit.
Not in the center of the action, but a lovely place to stay.
