I booked this hotel 9 months before I went. They told me about making sure I got the "Woods Hole" ferry way before I got their which I really appreciated.

I gave them nearly a $1,000 deposit - booked the suite. Called the night before arriving - the room was not available for the day we planned to leave. I had to rearrange my plans with the ferry (waited 3 hours to leave) as well as staying an extra night in Boston.

The day of arrival find out the room was not booked that we asked for. That very night they sent back my $1,000 deposit to the card I no longer owned (it was a Western Union Card). They tried to get me to pay again. I refused and they accepted (they should of been able to get the money back from Western Union).

They gave us the first night free due to the mistake. When I finally got to the suite I was so stressed it was really hard to enjoy. Beautiful facility. But I would not take their word on it that they booked what you asked for. Check and check again - get it in writing if you can. Other than that - it was a nice place. Could never go back thanks to all the heartache.

“VERY DISAPPOINTED!”

We just got back from a vacation to the New England states to
celebrate our 40th anniversary. I felt like I had checked out the
hotels quite thoroughly with Trip Advisor, but I should have paid
more attention to the reviews that mentioned the terrible service!
Boy, are they correct! From checking into the hotel to any
problems you might have--they are unfriendly and completely
lacking in trying to help make your stay enjoyable!
We ordered a fruit and cheese tray that was to be ready upon
our arrival. It was not. Since we wanted to leave and sightsee
the rest of the day, we told them to be sure and put the tray
in the refrigerator in the room. Of course, when we get back hours later it is sitting out. I, very nicely, explained that I didn't
want the tray after it had been sitting out and to please come and
get it and to credit our bill. They came and again with the attitude!
Our bill was credited there, but when we got home and checked
our credit card bill the charge reappeared!
The carpet in the room was dirty; and dead bolt broken--as
someone else mentioned in another review. I didn't even bother
to tell them because I couldn't stand the unpleasantness that
would result from a phone call to the staff. There was mold in
the shower; and the sinks are both pedestal, which is very
unhandy when you're trying to get ready. The view, which I
was told was wonderful; isn't much! I booked a water view
suite, but you can see the water only from a distance as there
are blocks of city in-between. The restaurant attached had good
food and a very nice waitress, but the hostess taking names
looked like she would like to tear you to ribbons. It was
defnitely a bad attitude in that hotel and I would
never stay there again!

Mother Nature is responsible for the water views, but we are responsible for the rest. Happily Mansion House Inn usually receives complements, good write ups and guests love the authenticity of the seaside village of Vineyard Haven. But this review from Midwest Happytraveler recounted a perfect storm of mistakes. After researching each detail with staff we called the reviewer, apologized again and credited her account again for her inconvenience. Our goal is affordable luxury in a magical place. We congratulate Midwest Happytraveler on her anniversary and hope that the rest of her trip created warm memories for the next 40 years!

my husband & i stayed in a jr suite this week in celebration of our 2nd anniversary and we had a wonderful stay.
the staff were very helpful (especially the 3 women), the location is convenient to everything (ferry, bus line, etc) and the breakfast was delicious.
the hotel rates drop dramatically following columbus day AND if you stay 4 nights, you only pay for 3. the hotel is very pretty and the island, charming.
we rented a tandem from martha's bike rentals and went all around the island's 40-plus miles of bike trails. the staff there were both very helpful and friendly.
but keep in mind that if you plan to sail or partake in some other activities, many establishments are closed after columbus day.
we didn't have any problems because there was plenty to do...

Stayed there over the Columbus day weekend and was pleasantly surprised with our King Suite. NOTE: the website said they were full to capacity that weekend but when I called they said thats just how the website is and its good I called (???). Anyway, the suite had a couch and fireplace (pilotlight) and balcony overlooking the street which was kinda cool because it gave a new orleans kinda feel to it.
Bed - great. Bathroom - great. Amenities - great.

Only 2 little things were mentioned elsewhere on this page: the breakfast gets cold by the time you sit with it and yes, I did notice the regulars were more cozy with the staff than the guests, but to be fair on my last day, one of them did start to open up and laugh and talk with me so I guess they just see so many people on a week to week basis its just not worth yukking it up with everyone. oh, and a third thing, I wanted to use the pool with my wife but there were these screaming kids, yes screaming, taking up the entire pool. I kept wondering where their parents were.

The restaurant was indeed great though, their fish and chips and sirloin special steak were awesome. and their spa...the masseusse was awesome (never had one) and the lady doing my facial (yes, I had a man facial for the first itme too) - I wanted to marry her, but alas this is just her job. :-)

Overrall, I would defintely come back, its just so relaxing and noone bothers you, as long as youre with company nothing else matters.

“Best hotel on Martha's Vineyard”

Mansion House

The rooms at the Mansion House are very comfortable - we got a village view when we arrived, but I asked for a harbor view and was promptly upgraded to an even more beautiful suite. Be sure to take advantage of use of the health club (pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi) during your stay. The staff was unfailingly welcoming and knowledgeable about the island. The food at Zepherus is wonderful (we even had room service one night - a rarity!) and the view from the roof desk not to be missed. All in all, the best hotel we've ever stayed in.
