When my brother and I went antiquing in early May in the Berkshires, I was looking for something better priced than two single rooms and that offered more privacy than sharing a double. What I found on the Internet was the Shaker Mill Inn in West Stockbridge, where we had the “Executive Suite” at a $140 plus tax at the off-season rate. Prior to arriving I had several phone calls and e-mails with the owners Lori and Michael who were quite nice and helpful.
The Executive Suite was on the second floor in the back of the building up a flight of stairs. We went down a little flight of stairs to enter the suite. On the left was a bedroom area with a queen bed, two night stands, a chest of drawers, a television and a little terrace that overlooked the small parking lot with a nice view beyond it. In the center of the suite was a closet and the bathroom, and to the right was another bedroom area with queen bed, television, etc. That space also included a kitchenette with microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator and sink, but no stove or hot plate. There was decent supply of dishes and flatware, but no paper towels or dish towels. The bathroom was fine with lots of light and a fairly strong shower. The room came with breakfast which included coffee for the coffeemaker, orange juice, fruit, cereal and croissants.
It was a very pleasant and comfortable room, and extremely quiet, which is of the ultimate importance to me. One of the things that I particularly liked about the Executive Suite was that there were wastebaskets and outlets galore as well as many lights, which took us a while to figure out how to turn on. Light was certainly abundant in the suite because there were skylights everywhere, and that for me was the only drawback. I’m used to sleeping in a very dark room, and with a skylight above my head I unhappily woke up at the crack of dawn.
I would highly recommend the Shaker Mill Inn to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in West Stockbridge. By the way, the Rouge Restaurant in town was great.
