My girlfriend and I stayed at the Bayside Resort Hotel to celebrate our anniversary. We thought we'd enjoy a nice, romantic weekend and booked the Jacuzzi suite.
The Pros:
========
This simple yet pleasant hotel is affordable and offers visitors to the Cape with a fantastic location. The backyard area of the resort is very small (1000 sq. ft. perhaps) but is covered in sand and has a sitting area for nicer times of year to lounge around with a view. Though it isn't a beach, it's setup to look like one. The parking is very convenient and there is a staircase and door entry every 6 - 7 rooms. While there, we encountered three or four staff members and they were all very pleasant (though the maid spoke no English whatsoever).
The complimentary breakfast was pretty good and consisted of bagels, donuts, three types of cereals, muffins, and several other types of foods that were tasty. The area was also setup well.
The arcade area is fantastic for kids (has air hockey, foosball, pool, some older arcade machines) and the hotel has a bar for the 21+ crowd wishing to escape the daily grind with a drink.
The location of this hotel is very close to the airport, at least a dozen restaurants (pizza places, Subway, other fast food chains, IHop, Olive Garden, etc.) and just a five minute drive or so from Main St. shopping. The hotel gives you complimentary discounts off of area restaurants.
The hotel has countless amounts of activities for children. They had a huge cage that you can bounce in (moon bouncing it might be called) among other things and it's very scheduled.
The Cons:
========
Apparently, there are several other Jacuzzi suits in the vicinity so throughout the day (and night), you were basically overwhelmed by an obnoxiously loud, overpowering sound when the jets were running or even when others were filling up their Jacuzzis!
Aside from the noise itself, the "suite" wasn't very impressive. The TV was a small, 27" (at most) TV that was situated at a level lower than the bed itself which made viewing and changing the channel annoying and difficult. Movies, by the way, are $11.50.
The suite was lit by just 2 lamps attached to the bed and 3 small bulbs on the far end of the room. The main lamp in the room didn't even work and we couldn't find a switch for it.
This hotel is definitely geared towards being a "family hotel." The pool room was always overcrowded but then again, we also went during Spring vacation.
The Conclusion:
=============
Bottom line? If you're going for a romantic getaway and the Jacuzzi suite caught your attention, you might want to think twice about it because of the noise. It was so loud we even had to increase the volume of our TV substantially and raise our voices. You could also hear a loud vibrating sound through your pillow during the night when they were in use around you.
However, if you're headed to Bayside for a family trip, I'd recommend it. I saw many families having a good time and they really enjoyed the pool area, arcade, breakfast, and free activities. Hope this review helps. Happy traveling!
