We got a pretty decent deal on this hotel through a sale on Hotels.com. The hotel itself is pretty, just not in the best location and could probably use some renovations and money put into it. Although we didn't feel unsafe at the hotel; we had to drive through some shady areas to get to it. It's in the New Center area of downtown and right next to the Fisher Building. If you are going to a show there, it would be an ideal location, for example. Probably the biggest reason for my review is that we/I ran out of hot water for a shower. If it wasn't in the dead of winter and 10 degrees outside, it may have not been an issue. Anyway, hopefully that issue is the exception rather than the rule.
The hotel is clean and the staff was friendly, so if you can get a good deal on it like we did, it's not a bad choice if you want to stay downtown. There are more hotels closer to the "action", so I'd probably try those first.

“A little strange”

Clearly an older place in a neighborhood that used to be buzzing but is now nearly abandoned. The staff were nice, and the building was old but in working condition. The fitness center was under renovation and unavailable to use, and the staff suggested the fitness center across the street, but the cost would be $12/visit (!). The morning breakfast was mediocre, but free. There didn't appear to be many other guests at the hotel when we were there, which added to the air of strangeness, since it's a fairly large building. To avoid feeling completely depressed about the current state of the city of Detroit, I'd recommend a hotel closer to downtown and the river. Be sure to check out the beautiful old theater (the Fisher) next door if you do stay at the St. Regis, though.

“Great stay!”

I arrived in Detroit and was immediately hassled for a 20$ taxi drive to the hotel. So my first impression of the city was not too good.
But the hotel, at the reception the girl was very friendly, our room was very nice and clean and quiet located at the back.
The dinner in the restaurant was delightfull.
We were staying at the w-end so we were offered also free Internet access, free DVD and a complimentary breakfast.
I just had a great time staying at the St. Regis. Thanks!!

“St Regis”

The St Regis is very well located for the AmTrak Station and you can easily hail a cab to get to other locations. It looked like it had once been a very beautiful place, much like the whole of poor battered Detroit but there are some lovely assets to it. Its easy to walk to the motown museum and the Fisher building is truly breathtakingly understated. Its worth noting that on Mondays all the museums in town are closed we spoilt that element of our trip. We did have problems with the booking being lost on arrival which were quickly resolved… unlike the bite rash we got from the bed.

“Good value Hotel - pleasantly surprised”

I was a little concerned after I had read some of the other reviews, but my stay at the St Regis was good.
Room (509) was a good size (king), non smoking and clean. Bathroom was clean and functional.

High speed internet worked well ( i presume they they have it in all the rooms). Had a slight hiccup trying to connect the first time, but it turned out to be my browser settings. Call to Comcast fixed the issue in a few minutes.

I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. - no problems with the valet parking!

Breakfast was good value - esp if you have the coupons - was approx $3 for buffet breakfast (minus $5 discount).

The restaurant food was kinda bland and so - so. You may want to eat out - cos you'll get bored quickly esp. if ur a veggie like me. - too many meat dishes.

The Sunday brunch was very popular with a good spread. Seems like a ot of people came out for that.

the hotel is well located on the top of Wooward road - so my drive into downtown detroit was a breeze - to the Cobo center. apprx 10 - 20 mins depending upon traffic road works etc.

Laundry took 1 or 1.5 days. Supposed to be completed in 1 day if delivered before 8am. One time it was late.

Thought of giving it 4 stars - cos good amenities - but my standards are high...

4 stars for value perhaps...
