Booking was difficult with NWR. First sent an email. No response. Then used the booking form on the NWR website. No response. Finally called a week before the trip. Found out that they are about 1 - 2 weeks behind in answering emails and that they would respond withing a few days.... Protested. Was connected several times and finally was able to make a booking over the phone after speaking to around 8 people (no wonder they are behind). Then email from a reservation person, another from bookkeeping. Then a few more about the prepay.... Was the most complicated reservation i ever made in my life.....
We booked the best available room. The room itself was nice and new and big with bathtub and shower. Their new rooms seem to be at the far end of the lodge next to the camping area (noise).
The layout is very inconvenient. The fort with the restaurant (basic food, dinner was ok, breakfast left much to desire) is on one side, then the old rooms, then the new rooms and finally the camping site. Parking was behind the camping site and during some hours they provide a golf cart service from parking to a drop off point from where you had to walk to your room. It is nice to have no cars inside the resort area, but then there are cars in the camping area.
Check in (and that seems to be consistent with the other NWR lodges like entering a government office. People are friendly but very inefficient. Don't even think about getting a welcome drink - which should be standard in this price range.
We paid around 2400 N$ for two people - which is far too much for this kind of a lodge. Talking to people we met the private lodges outside the park are cheaper and better - and it takes only 10 to 20 min or so to get to the resort area from there anyway.
