I can honestly say this is one of the most relaxing, enjoyable holidays I have ever experienced!
The location in a small hamlet in the French countryside is enchanting with a nearby artist, free-range chickens and numerous pathways providing walks in every direction.
The hosts, Ian and Sara, were friendly and welcoming, eager to assist and socialise but never overstepping the boundaries so we felt we had the space to relax in the lovely seating areas they had built in both sun and shade. Their family is charming and we were delighted to have their little son take us on a guided tour to the neighbouring village where he goes to school - he even introduced us to his teacher at the market!
Food? Fantastic! We ate at Le Chevrefeuille each of the four evenings that Ian cooked while we were there and every meal was different and delicious - I didn't know the French custom is to eat the cheese course before the dessert but I forced myself to comply!!
The accommodation was really comfortable and fully equipped - we had our own little eating area outside where we breakfasted on the croissants Ian collected for us from the village. We struggled to leave the gardens and courtyard but it was worth the effort to see the local towns like Sarlat and Le Bugue, the caves with their prehistoric drawings, the markets, festivals, castles and rivers.
The more I recall, the more I yearn to go back! Thanks to Ian and Sara for letting us share their idyllic setting!
PS Sorry - no photos - we forgot our cameras but at least we've got the memories!

  • Liked — Warm welcome, good food, comfortable places to relax indoors and in gardens
  • Disliked — nothing - it was really good!

We stayed with Ian and Sara for five nights in one of their standard chambre d’hote rooms. Standard does not reflect reality as the room was very clean, well equipped, benefited from a great ensuite, breakfasts were fresh and plentiful and best of all it represented great value for money. The room overlooked the formal garden which was a great place to relax in.
In the evenings we had magnificent meals cooked by Ian and plenty of wine! All meals were served in the courtyard which was very pleasant area.
If you want to receive a warm welcome, stay in a beautiful area, relax and enjoy good food what are you waiting, book now before we beat you to it!

Have visited 3 times now. If you want a holiday with English breakfast, fish and chip supper, nightlife, slot machines and sky t.v. this is not for you. However if you want a peaceful, stress free holiday in idylic surroundings with friendly accomodating hosts and the chance to take advantage of some great home cooking or to cater for yourself in a small but well stocked kitchen in your own homely Gite then you should visit Le Chev. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area but i advise hiring you own transport. There are some great walks near by, but to fully appreciate the area you really need a car. If you are looking for reasonably priced, value for money accomodation in the Dordogne you will not be dissapointed.Don't forget to savour the local wine.

  • Liked — Small, friendly and a great area to explore.
  • Disliked — Nothing it was as advertised.

We love this place and the people so much we are returning for our third visit this year. Ian & Sara couldn't be more helpful and friendly, making our stay particularly special with Ian's fantastic cooking in the evenings. Le Chevrefeuille is so picturesque, at the same time as being practical especially for families. The gites are comfortable and clean with bar-be-ques on every terrace allowing you to enjoy some alfresco dining. The mowed field behind the gites is excellent for the children to meet up with each other and join in with whatever is going on be it rounders, badminton or football, while the adults enjoy a wonderful 4 course meal in the farmhouse courtyard. There is so much to do in the surrounding area that we are kept busy exploring new places every time we go.'Le Chevrefeuille' works so well for us that we wouldn't contemplate going anywhere else at the moment. I couldn't recommend it more highly!

This year is the second year we have stayed with Ian, Sara and their wonderful family. Yet again the welcome we received was so warm and friendly, the gite was spotless and extremely well equipped. The essence is simplicity with considerable attention to detail. The owners are always attentive to your needs whilst alllowing the visitor all the privacy they may require. Sara's energy and drive is matched by Ian's wonderful cooking skills providing great meals when required. Their terrace is a great meeting place for diners who can enjoy a great meal in very convivial surroundings and join other diners should they wish for really enjoyable evenings/middle of the nights (all visitors are given complete peace during the night). The gite is in a peaceful location, surrounded by wonderful plants, etc, but is central to all visitor locations- Les Eyzies, Sarlat, Domme, etc.
Le Chevrefeuille caters for all sorts of guests, families with small children, couples, cyclists, golfers, walkers, etc.
Well done Sara and Ian, keep up the good work!!!
Thank you the Adam and Alice for making our holiday so special.
