I stayed at this hotel probably ten times over the course of several years from 2002-2004 or so. I'm very surprised to see this hotel ranked 14/14 in Eagan, for me, it seemed like a second home and I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. I had a girlfriend living only a couple miles away, also in Eagan, so the location of this hotel was absolutely perfect. I was also amazed that I could get a large room, king bed, recliner, and half kitchen, with a full-sized fridge, for so cheap. The prices drop considerably once you hit 7 nights, hence the "Extended Stay" brand. There were several trips my total came only to $35-40 a night. My first instinct now would be that the hotel must be horrible, but I never got that impression at all, quite the opposite. Again the prices and recollections for me are at least 4 years old, things may have changed now, but for me they're accurate.
They save money by restricting amenities you'd get at other hotels. There's no daily room service, for each week you get one day of "straightening up" and one day of full service (so don't trash your room). You won't have mints on your pillows, you won't have a mini-bar, you won't have ultra-luxury 1000 thread count sheets, no attached dining, no ornate lobby, etc. You get a nice, big, room suite, with a kitchen, but everything else is basically left to you. The front desk even closes at night, there's someone on call for emergencies but basically no 24-hour front desk staff like at most hotels. But then again, that's why you're paying $40/night for 7 nights in a suite. I never had any problems with cleanliness, nor any problem with staff. It's kind of like the feeling of leasing a studio apartment for a week, that's probably the most accurate description of the situation.
Anyway, I never had a single bad stay there. Never saw a single insect nor anything of that nature. I always considered this brand a "diamond in the rough." Think about it, how many hotels charge $150 a night because there's staff on call 24/7 or because there's full room service every day? How many of those amenities do you actually, really use? If you're on a budget, and are staying for over a week, this is where'd I'd recommend you stay if you're in Eagan. Run over and get some groceries, because why not, you have a fridge, a cook top, plates and silverware, etc, and take care of it like it's your own place.
