We went to Cecil's for lunch, chasing a reuben and malt fixation. In that regard, they succeeded.
The awesome: the malts. Sure, they are $4.50, but worth every penny and then some. Also, extra points for my request of extra chocolate extra malt. I ordered it dark and gritty, and that's what was delivered. :) My wife ordered a chocolate banana malt, and was also very happy with the results.
The mediocre: the sides we got (fries and sweet and sour slaw) we alright. Fries were average, but what would be expected from most places so no points against. The sweet and sour slaw was a bit of a disappointment. It was a little heavy on the peppers, and kind of runny, but the texture was fine.
The reubens themselves had good reuben flavor, but the corned beef in hers and the spicy pastrami in mine was tough. Still, they were generous with the sour kraut and dressings on the sandwiches.
Service was a little slow, but it was very, very busy, and the manager was doing everything he could do to get people seated. Also, this is one of the few remaining places where you can get a "phosphate" meaning the 19th century flavored sodas. That was both good and interesting. We would definitely go back, but might pick a time between lunch and dinner when hopefully it wouldn't be so busy.
