We had planned to try Taylors Grocery and Restaurant, but apparently it is only open for dinner Thursday-Sunday, so we ended up at Newk's instead. And we were glad we did! It seemed to be a lively popular place, full of students and families, as it was down the street from University of MS (Ole Miss). It was a bit noisy but not uncomfortable during our visit on a Monday night in April, 2008. Parking was easy in their lot. We stood in line at the door, were impressed by the menu selections, and placed our orders at the counter before seating ourselves in a booth. Our food was delivered promptly and was fabulous! I had a cup of bean soup, which was actually served in a large bowl, and it was spicy, hot and delicious. The caramel cake was a cool, sweet antidote to the soup's spiciness! The spicy bacon and chicken pannini sandwich was also terrific. I saw other customers enjoying soups and salads-- the small sized bowls are large, and the regular sized bowls are huge! You might need a doggie bag!
