Walked in without a reservation during my drive through the mountains -- could have probably gotten a lower price online, but I wasn't planning ahead.

Great breakfast, comfy beds (complete with your choice of firm or soft pillows..) free high speed internet & nice people at the reception desk!

Having stayed in 4 Holiday Inn express locations in the past month, they were not up to the usual standard. Rooms were OK only - normally they are bigger, hotel newer and furnishings of a higher standard. Thats ok though.

Biggest problem was the empty breakfast bar in the morning. Normally breakfast is really well organised at the Holiday Inn Expresses and they are our preferred option. This one however almost had no food - out of everything except a couple of cup cakes and some eggs. Out of EVERYTHING else. The girl looking after breakfast was in tears in the corner as she had nothing to offer. Apprently management issues resulted in what happened and it happens often occording to the staff.

Ended up at McDonalds down the road but having paid for breakfast in our tariff we felt justifyingly ripped off.

My family and I were to stay for 5 nights, but stayed only one because of the condition of the room. The website indicated a hotel renovation, but from our perspective, it was on the lobby, not the room which has not been updated since the 80s. It was very run-down e.g., broken cabinets, small, "grody" bathoom, spotted carpet. We paid $169 for one night and moved to the Doubletree for the rest of our stay. The Doubletree, by the way, was excellent.

We stayed at the Holiday Express May 11 on our way to Wyoming. Our decision was based on the Missoula tripadvisor forum. It is a five minute walk across a footbridge to the university and a twenty minute walk to downtown. Be sure to have a cup of coffee at Liquid Planet downtown......fun place. Oh yes, and have dinner at The Depot. The complimentary breakfast was great. The only drawback was the sound of the train at night, but considering the tracks run smack dab in the middle of town, I suspect that one would hear the train anywhere in town.
