Arrived at the Valet, friendly and prompt service. The Hotel Lobby was only steps away with no waiting at Check-In. The clerk was friendly and honor our request for room away from Fremont Street Experience (Odd Number Room if I recall). The non-smoking king bed room was as advertized, below average size, clean, very small bath/shower combo. I appreciated having a keyed “lock box” for valuables. We have stayed downtown a few years back at the Plaza (prior to long overdue renovations), Fitzgerald (now know as the “D”). The Fremont room was fine for weekend trip if solo or with a loving partner (the room is very cozy).
DINING: I ate one breakfast meal at the 24-hour Asian Café …..never again. I recommend Dunkin Donuts Coffee with a donut if you must have something in your belly. Now, here is the good news for downtown visitors, the Plaza Hotel has a Hash-A-Go-Go with an excellent Bloody Mary, I read mostly mixed reviews for this restaurant review and figure at most “50/50” we would have a decent meal. Well, we both were overwhelmed with the quality and quantity for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. We really enjoyed Hash-A-Go-Go. The only other place we ate was off-strip/downtown restaurants (we are former locals).
FREMONT CASINO: I played Blackjack almost every evening/early morning….the dealers were friendly and enjoyed their conversation. One problem, the $25 minimum Double Deck BJ tables were the only one with decent BJ rules (i.e. traditional). I was up and down at the Fremont. I tried my luck at the Golden Nugget and the “D” and near the end of my downtown weekend my entire gambling budget for the weekend was depleted to almost nothing. Ironically, prior to leaving for Tucson, I stopped by New York-New York Hotel & Casino to tour their suites for an upcoming business event. We had to wait an hour, so I played BJ and won nearly all my gambling budget back….thank you MGM.
Overall, from my perspective “The Fremont Street Experience” is attracting the "hip over 30 crowd"….I mean there were the quite a few young ladies walking around a few young men. My guess is the over 30 Crowd is looking for a change of pace from the strip. Yes, there are quite a few “Retirees”, but they know the game and they just want to make a little extra a top of their pension and social security checks. BTW, unfortunately my wife had no luck at the machines; however she really enjoyed the “Gold Fish?” machines.
Again, we have yet to find the perfect Casino…..proper BJ tables and hot machines.
Overall, we enjoyed Fremont Hotel (thank goodness we were comp 4-nights) and Downtown Vegas, meeting folks, people watching, drinking, food, and new experiences. This what makes Vegas very unique to most other cities in the world.
We were back to Vegas for the 4th July Weekend…. The North Las Vegas Aliante Hotel & Casino Trip Report is coming soon!
The "Fremont Street Experience" is loud in until late in the evening, stay away from rooms...
