We were in Las Vegas in February and stayed at the Flamingo. That hotel probably has the closest approach to the monorail station of them all, although the Hilton is not bad.

This was our first trip to Vegas since the monorail was finished so we wanted to check it out. It is fast, efficient and clean. The trains come every 7 minutes or so and there are numerous stops along the route.

The monorail is a great value if you are staying on the EAST side of the Strip. It does nothing for those on the WEST side unless they are willing to walk quite a distance. That said, the monorail can be a great savings if your plans follow it's path.

For us it was great. Staying at the Flamingo the station was a short, easy walk. We wanted to go see the Star Trek experience at the Hilton and the monorail station is right outside that part of the Hilton so it was just perfect. Another day we went back to the Hilton to see Barry Manilow and the monorail met our needs perfectly again. It would be handy for going to the south end of the Strip as well if you didn't want to take a cab or wait for the bus.

A one ride ticket is $5, which I agree is steep if you're not going the whole route but 10 rides for $35 works out to $3.50 per ride, which is infinitely cheaper than any cab ride from the Flamingo to the Hilton for two people.

I can see how it would be most beneficial for people attending conventions and I am sure that fact figured heavily in the planning and placement. I have heard that the line will eventually be extended from the airport to downtown. When that happens it will be a real blessing for visitors.

Ride it for the novelty. Ride it if it fits into your plans. It is certainly not the answer to Vegas' transportation headaches but it is a small help for some people.

Sure, it doesn't circle the strip, or go downtown or to the airport, but I still find it helpful. You have to do a lot of walking to get to the stations because they are in the back of the casinos, but I would rather walk through an air conditioned casino than along the strip when its 110 outside.

We usually do so much walking around that a ride on the monorail is a nice break. Especially at night, when you feel like you feet are going to fall off.

In comparison to other cities, this system isn't the best but it is a good start.

“Loved the Monorail!”

First timers to Vegas, we didn't want to rent a car and then drive on the crazy Strip (and after seeing it I was glad we didn't). Stayed at the Flamingo and took the monorail to the Hilton to see the Star Trek Experience, took it another day to get to the Sahara to take the Deuce to downtown. Fast, comfy and great air-conditioning. We heard many people complain about the crowded Deuce that took 35 minutes to get down from one end of the strip to the other-not a problem on the monorail. Yes, the walk to the back of the hotels was lengthy and occasionally hard to find, but it was much better than walking outside in the 106 heat. Spent $35 for 10 times which we shared. It would not be smart to use these to get to the next stop when you could walk that far, but better to plan it out and use them to get far distances, especially in the afternoon heat. Not very crowded and we couldn't understand why ride the overcrowded bus when for a few dollars more, you could ride the monorail.

For first time Vegas visitors--please read.
I was just in Vegas with my elderly parents and was excited to hear about the Monorail b/c it would save us from being in the heat and walking alot. Boy was I mistaken. First, the station at the Flamingo wasnt air-conditioned. We took the Monorail to get to the Fashion Show Mall and we had to walk (in the heat) at least seven blocks after getting off the monorail. Please read the map carefully. The map will say that a stop is for a bunch of different venues but they are not. The stops are named after the hotels that the station is located. If that hotel is your destination than great. If not, you have to walk the length of the hotel to the strip and then walk to your final destination. It is also way overpriced. One way is $5.00 and a round trip is $9. What a rip off. We took a cab back from the mall. It was twelve dollars and money well spent! If you have been to Vegas before and know the distances between the venues then you can make a more informed decision on the Monorail but first time visitors beware.

I love the freedom the monorail gives me in Vegas. I have rented cars there before, but it was such a hassle fighting traffic and pedestrians and finding the hotel entrances, and not being able to drink, it wasn't worth it. We found that taxis were expensive and you were still stuck with the traffic and other stuff. We tend to walk alot in vegas anyway, so the distance to the stations wasn't a big deal. With the latest rate increase it's not as good a deal as it was last year, but still OK with the 10 for $35 ticket.
