Sonio’s Café is a popular locals’ hot spot only open Monday – Friday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (closes at 4 p.m. on Fridays).
You receive excellent customer service from the moment you enter the door. Despite the restaurant being busy at 11:45 a.m., we were seated right away and had drinks within 3 minutes. When the food came out, it was huge – very generous portions. The salad is enough for 3 – 4 people, and the gyro I ordered for at least two people. I would have to say that this was one of the best gyro sandwiches I have ever had (a little overcooked but flavorful meat with lettuce, tomato and cucumber slices.
Every server that passed by asked to make sure we were OK and that the meal was fine. “Uncle Teddy” (the owner) makes guests laugh and ensures that things are running well. When we were leaving, a second server offered to refill our beverages and place a lid on the cups – I have never experienced that anywhere ever!
There is a definite pride of ownership at the restaurant. Diners can pay their tab at the counter, and homemade salad dressing and a pepper mix were for sale (three options). I went during lunch and every table is taken. We arrived at 11:45 a.m. and two-thirds of the restaurant was already full. Recommend that you go early.
Sonio’s opened in 1992, and has a catering menu, delivery service, and a franchise option. In September, 2003, the restaurant burned to the ground but was rebuilt and re-opened in November, 2004.
I am highly impressed with the restaurant and would definitely eat here again in the future. This is a restaurant that puts their customers first and goes out of their way to please them.
