Rates seemed expensive through Expedia, etc. Made reservations at Paris, then happened to look at the MGM site for Howie Mandel tickets. Wow..found a $59 rate for a regular room. Cancelled Paris, and what a smart move that was!
MGM has a check in desk in baggage claim at the a/p - however it was closed when I arrived (open until 11pm). Hopped in a cab ($8) to the hotel. There are wandering assistants awaiting you as you approach the massive front desk. They then kindly point you toward a particular agent..nice touch, and helpful for questions, too. Desk clerk was great..quick..efficient. Took 2 mintues and I was on my way.
Stayed in the West Tower (which by the way has it's own bar on the 1st floor - remember that if you are in the West Tower). You can take the West Tower elevators, or the main tower ones - both get you where you need to go. Room was great - very "W Hotel" like. Good size, very nicely appointed. DVD player AND a TV in the bathroom with remote. Remember, this is a REGULAR RUN OF THE HOUSE room - so stay in these without worry. Large glass enclosed shower, and seperate glass enclosed toilet area. Good counter space and shelves in the bathroom. Super Sony alarm clock with 2 alarms - and the alarm or music will slowly raise its volume until you hit it. Nice touch versus getting that loud alarm to jolt you out of dreamworld.
Internet service is $10.99 per 24 hours. GREAT health club/spa - HOWEVER if you just want to work out, plan for a $25 fee. Walk the strip or around this massive hotel and you'll get a good workout. Room service each morning - quick. They say 35 minutes, but always came within 20 - and there was a large convention in town and at the hotel.
Alot of nice stores and restaurants in the place. Ate at Emeril's - 3 people with 2 glasses of wine each ran me $295 with tip. FAST service, but sorry Emeril - nothing that impressive. Saw Howie Mandel in the Hollywood Theater at the hotel. Great show, although as in most of these types of places, drinks were ssslllloowww to get to the table.
Check out really quick, and bell stand great in storing/retrieving bags.
The monorail stops at this hotel, and its easy to get to. Other hotel stops are usually outside the hotel...and...the Paris Hotel stop is ACTUALLY in Bally's next door - so if you're staying there...long walk to the monorail. Monorail is a quick and nice way to get around to the major spots.
I'd stay here again, and would recommend it to anyone. I'm a business traveler and this place caters to it - however, if on a leisure trip - I'd stay here just as well. There's a ton of options right at the hotel for the family (check out the Studio Tour underground walkway...it's easily a mile long filled with great restaurants, and fun things for the kids including an arcade).
The place does a great job. Go with it..you'll be happy you did!
