Just returned home from a trip to Las Vegas and we stayed at the MGM grand. I was with two friends visiting from Colombia on our first visit to Las Vegas. I booked this hotel through a travel agent who recommended the hotel since their were deals for standard rooms at $89.00 per night. When we arrived at the Hotel at around 7:00 pm. we were told by that all the non-smoking rooms were taken with 2 double beds had been taken and we had to settle for a smoking room. Needless to say I was very disturbed at this news and told them so. I was then told of a promotional in place to upgrade to a two-bedroom suite regularly costing $900.00 per night for just an additional $160.00 per night. I decided to go ahead with this upgraded room. The room that we were provided certainly was very nice with beautiful views of the strip on one side and the airport on the other. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the suite large and spacious. The master bedroom had a large jacuzzi. Now the not so good....this hotel is huge!!! Getting to your room is a short hike and getting out of the hotel to the main strip is even a longer hike. The hotel is situated at one end of the strip far from other major hotels...Fortunately the monoral does stop at the MGM grand and provides a easy way to get to other hotels in the area. During my next trip to Las Vegas I would probably stay at a hotel closer to the middle of the strip around the Bellagio, unless this hotel can beat those other hotels on price.

The MGM Grand is just that, a Grand Hotel. It is grand in style, location, attitude, and SIZE...when I say BIG, I mean BIG. Already irritated, I checked in at the convenient Airport Check-in where the plesant desk clerk addressed my concerns over the size of the hotel by finding me a wonderful room near the main elevator with a superb strip view. Only problem there was they wouldn't take a Debit Card for incidentals, but rather insisted on a Credit Card. Since I do not do debt, it bothered me some..but...this is Vegas, where the real goal is to seperate a visitor from their cash.
The Grand is located on the Strip, with easy mono-rail access and skywalks to the west side of the strip for NY/NY and Excalibur. Close to very inexpensive suveniors and lots of action, great shows, and a casino Lewis and Clark could get lost in. And the Food....Classic Vegas at it's finest. I highly recommend the MGM Grand....just drop the credit card issue. Consumers are getting to smart to use them or to broke to gamble.

Stayed here for seven nights on the 03 of april with three friends. We had two rooms side by side on the 24 th floor. The roms are very big and offer great value for money. They offer a large bathroom area with one sink and a bath/shower all in one. We arrived at 5pm and where in our rooms by 5.20pm The check in process was easy. The hotel is enormous and always busy, even at 7.30am in the bar. There is a good choice of restraunts and bars. Food and drinks are expesive but this is vegas what do you expect. If you want cheaper food close by, try new york new york across the street.

We spent a couple of days by the pool and found it to be of a high standard and again very busy. Drinks at the pool are even more expensive so dont bother.

If you want to visit a great hotel that screams vegas stay here. We visited all the big hotels and found MGM to be more down to earth and just more fun. Staff are good but not over friendly in that annoying way. There is something here for everybody. Yes its busy, yes its expensive, but like i said this is vegas what do you expect.

Like any hotel you can find faults but only if you look really hard. If you want perfection pay $1000 more and stay at the bellagio or the venetian.

In closing i would recomend this place to anyone and will definitley stay here again.

My husband and I visited Vegas from 4/2/07-4/6/07. We got a great deal off Expedia. It was our first time to Vegas, so we really only picked MGM based off internet pictures and reviews. While the reviews were mixed, we still decided it was worth a try. SO glad we did. We arrived around 3:30 at the check-in. Lines were minimal, but nonetheless a little slow. I attribute this to the actual guests and not MGM as our checkin process was simple. We were originally given a room with no view (I asked at the desk). However, after I inquired about upgrades, for $40/nt, we were able to get bumped to a Hollywood Suite. 800 sq ft! The views were not spectacular, but we could still see some of the strip and for all the space, it was well worth it. The ONLY complaint I have about the room itself, is that it did have a bit of a foul odor from the moment we walked in that never went away. I'm not sure what it was, but it was apparent that there was not fan in the bathroom. Could've been from that, but I wouldn't think that would last for five days. The elevators were close to check in, and though the hallways were long, I didn't find them exceptionally so. No different from normal Disney hotels. The casino is none too special and I definitely recommend visiting as many of the others as you can. It's fun to see the differences. We did try the MGM pool once, but we got there too late as it closes early at 5:30. We were there five days and still didn't have enough time to visit everything in the hotel. There's just to much to see elsewhere. The room was great, the bed was comfy - great duvet cover, and the staff was extremely helpful. I can't ask for more than that.

HOTEL: Another fun trip to Vegas. It was our second time staying at the MGM. Not much has changed from our last visit in 2003. The rooms are clean and quiet. We were on the 27th floor and had a partial view of the strip and mountains. The hotel is very large like everything else in Vegas but easy to get around once you get your feel of the place. Only complaint was that the pillows were to hard. Spent some time by the pool. All of them were open and lots of beautiful scenery if you catch my drift. Ladies look at the flowers and men wear dark glasses so you don't get caught looking at the ladies.

FOOD: Ate at the MGM Buffet and it was above average and for two without drinks came in around $50.00. Lots of different choices, some things were better then others but we all have different tastes. Had fantastic Mexican food at the Border Grill which is located at Madalay Bay. Highly recommend the Skirt Steak.

SHOW: Didn't take in any of the big shows but would suggest checking into the same day ticket sales to save about 50%. There are also coupon books around that can save you a few dollars or two for ones on some of the smaller shows. If you can't find one ask and they will direct you to where they are. We did see the "American Superstars" at the Stratosphere and it was worth the money spent and very entertaining.

Attractions: We took a drive out to the Hover Dam and enjoyed the trip. Boulder City is very nice. The dam was interesting to see but not something I would go out of my way to do again. I saw a documentary on TV that was more entertaining and informative then the real thing. They have a tour which you can pay to do but we heard it was alot of technical information.

We also did Red Rock Canyon it is a short drive west of the city and awesome to see. Next time we will have to make more time to hike some of the trails. Lots of great photos. Cost $5.00 per car load and well worth it.

Two miles down the road is Bonney Springs. It is an old western town, kinda. Very tacky but good for a bunch of laughs. Don't expect high end adventure but for $20.00 per car it was worth it. Besides the western town they have a petting zoo and put on some short shows. They did a fake hanging while we were there. The restaurant was busy and the food was descent and well priced. We spent an extra $35.00 dollors a person and went on a one hour horse back ride into the canyon which was fun. Its a trail ride and is slow paced so no need to be worried if its your first time on a horse. Good for kids and older folks as well. Longer rides can be booked.

GAMBLING: What can I say that hasn't been siad many times before. Go expecting to lose and if you win its a bonus. The older and smaller hotels seem to pay out more often but in smaller amounts. However, I saw a lady put in a dollar and win $5000.00. Just the luck of the Irish.

Summary: Great place to have fun and spend lots of cash. I have come to a conclusion that the room really doesn't matter much when I go on holidays because we spend so little time in them. It needs to be clean, quiet, temperature controlled, and have a hot shower that has pressure and I am a happy man. Save the gold faucets for Trump. My besty advice ... Don't waste your time sleeping while your in Vegas, save it for the flight home.
