“About what I expected... except for the hard beds”

Excalibur Hotel & Casino

I paid $20 extra per night for the upgraded rooms and it was fine except for a really hard bed. The decor itself in the upgraded tower is new, clean and nice. Room service (breakfast) was very spotty: 20 minutes one day, over an hour the next. Bathroom toiletries are cheap and not replenished during the stay. As with most Vegas hotels, there is no coffee maker in the room and few channels on the TV as they don't want you to spend time in your toom. In-room internet ($12.99/day) was very fast. Check-in was fast and they allowed me to check in before noon. Staff were all friendly. Hotel is directly connected via skybridges to Luxor and Mandalay Bay. Overall: what I'd expect from a large Vegas hotel.

We stayed a total of four nights at the hotel. The first night was excellent since I immediately won enough money to pay for all four nights of the hotel plus some shows, etc. This was brilliant.
However, if only I had a crystal ball, I probably would have stayed somewhere else.

That night, we ate at the Sherwood Cafe and it was the worst food ever. It was not fresh and the pancakes were hard as rocks. We each got a hot chocolate that wasn't even stirred. We ended up not eating it and refused to pay. We were shocked that they got security over when we told them that the food was horrible and that we would not be eating it. Now, I could see them refusing to take it off the bill if we ate it but, we were very dissapointed in it. And, I assure you that money wasn't an issue since I had just won a jackpot. Even security was a little miffed that they got them over there. They ended up comping us. That was nice since we didn't even eat the crap.

The upgraded rooms were at best mediocre and I'm not sure if $20 more a night is worth it. However, I would have hated to have seen the older rooms. Our view was of the towers and luxor; however, in order to have a view, we had to rig the blinds everyday because they did not work. We basically had to tie them up as high as we could. When you looked out the window, you could tell that others did the same thing. For upgraded rooms this was horrible. Maid service was not the best. The rooms were not dusted and the beds were made horribly. On the last day, I noticed some sticky scum on the blanket which really grossed me out that I had been sleeping under them.

On my last night there, we decided to go off the strip for breakfast. When the valet drove up my Lexus, it was covered with tree sap, twigs and bird droppings. I asked if it was parked under a tree and the valet said that it was. So much for valeting your car....I could have parked it under a tree myself if that's what I wanted. I was livid and asked to speak with management. Management agreed that they had a problem with the sap and would take care of this before I woke up in the morning.

Around 10:00am, I got a call from the Valet stating that I would have to go get the car washed myself and that they would reimburse me. Well, since it was almost check out time, they said that they would give us a 3pm check out time.

So, off to the car wash. I had it detailed hours before I arrived in Vegas and they told me that it would have to be waxed again to get the sap off. So, I paid for the minimum to get it off. Two hours later, they were finished and we drove back to the Exacalibur. So much for two hours being wasted but, I was happy the SAP was off my car. So, the staff took care of it as planned and reimbursed me $35.00.

Before we left to get the car wash, I was told that I had enough points on my card to get 2 free buffets. I asked the Manager, who reimbursed me for the car wash, how I get the buffets. She told me to charge it to my room and when I came down to check out, it would be taken care of. Well, we went and had our buffets and came down to check out.

Well, at check out, they tried charging me for the buffets. Again, I was very upset since I had wasted my morning getting the car washed and now they were saying that I owed over $30 for the buffet. I asked for the Manager and she said, "Well, we paid for your car wash and we gave you a late check out." (wasn't this nice of her to do this for us especially since neither were our fault.)

I said, "You know, I was told that the buffet would be taken care of too...what about my time." Thirty minutes later, after I started getting a little pissy with them, they finally comped our buffet. My Mother was pretty upset with the whole ordeal since she had planned on being home before we had even gotten to leave.

If it had not been for my win the first night, this stay would have sucked.

I have just returned from a 10 day holiday staying at this hotel. It was my third trip to this hotel and it has recently been refurbished with a great new pool area. There are three lovely pools and a bar area, bar-b-que and restaurant and also waitress service if you don't want to move from your sun lounger! We stayed in one of the newly refurbished widescreen view rooms. There was a view of the strip, a large plasma tv and nice furnishings. Not sure it was worth all of the extra money but it was very nice. Maid service daily and they change your sheets whenever you want them to, you just pop a card on your pillow requesting it. The buffet restaurant was ok but I recommend the Treasure Island hotel buffet which is excellent. The sherwood forest cafe was nice for breakfast and lunch. The hotel has a great atmosphere and the waitresses who serve you while you play on the machines visit you much more frequently than in most hotels (they bring you any drink you like while you play the machines, you just tip them a dollar per drink). Overall an excellent stay!

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights with our two children aged 8 and 12.
When we arrived at around 7pm I asked at check in if we could have a room in Tower 2, the young lady looked at the computer screen and said that would be fine; she didn't ask for any further money so we were very pleased about this.
Our room was on the 10th floor and had a view of the towers - it was just like the many pictures on the website, I particularly liked the amount of counter space in the bathroom and the hair dryer was quite powerful for a hotel one. It was good to have a safe and there was plenty of storage.
Our a/c stopped working one evening and I rang down, 20 minutes later 2 maintenance men came up and sorted it out for us.
The hotel is family friendly - as advertised - which is what we wanted. I didn't think it was particularly smokey.
The Sherwood Forest Cafe was good and we ate there one night as they were serving steak specials for $7.99 - which were very good, they also had a good kids menu.
We also ate at the buffet, which was cheap and cheerful with friendly chefs on the cavery station. The salad counter was good and well stocked but for a little extra we much preferred the Luxor buffet - which has a better range of food and is higher quality, it also has a dessert station to die for!
We went to The Tournament of Kings Show one evening and were seated in the Spanish section with a very loud school/collage? party, so we got fully involved in all the cheering and booing and had a great time. The food is also good and plentiful considering it is mass produced.
We spent a few hours in the swimming pool and had a fun time playing monsters and princesses with our kids. One pool was closed which we were initiallly disappointed by, but once we started playing we still had a great time. I don't know what they put in the pool but it ruined my and my husbands swimwear - it sort of ate away at the elastic in them - luckily we didn't notice until we were back in the room and I don't really care now if anyone else did!
We were constantly hassled by timeshare staff but just said no thanks / not interested etc and that was that! No problem really.
One evening was quite funny - I had taken the kids up at about 10pm using my husbands room key as I'd not taken my bag with me. He stayed downstairs to play BlackJack. When he tried to return he was not allowed by security as he didn't have a room key. They asked him the room number but he said 10214 instead of 10240 and when they rang up (luckily) noone was there. He asked someone to come up so I could verify who he was but they refused. In the end, after a lot of questions and answers at check in they issued a new key. So I will say that security is very good at the hotel!!
Location is good and I don't know what all the fuss about walking the strip is about. Ok it was late March and we couldn't have coped in the summer heat but one day we walked across to the MGM and then all the way to the Venetian, we got a taxi to the Stratosphere to go up the tower and do the rides then walked back to Circus Circus then got a taxi back. Taxis are cheap.
Las Vegas is great fun, the kids loved it (That will pick up some bad comments for me!) and we will go back and would stay at the Excalibur again.
Try to get out of Vegas - The Valley of Fire is amazing!
Please feel free to ask any questions!!

I stayed here on my 30th birthday. I received bed bugs from the room. I received my money back for the stay but spent my 30th birthday with bug bites. I am a travel agent and I would highly recommend to travellers and to travel agents booking else where.
