My husband and I traveled to Sparks so that he could go to a convention. Gambling is not my thing and I really wanted to see the countryside but did not have a car. The hotel consiege recommended the Bayline tours "Ultimate Tour" which was advertised as a 10 hour tour and actually ended up being a little longer. The bus driver was really into providing history of the region. He started with a 45 minute recorded history he had made about the Donner Party as we drove from Reno up to the Donner Pass monument. We drove throught the town of Truckee. We visited Squaw Valley ski resort ,the site of the 1960 Olympics.Then we drove around the North and East sides of Lake Tahoe with several stops along the way for pictures including a stop at Cal Nev casino/resort once owned by Frank Sinatra and frquented by Marilyn Monroe. It was great to have someone else driving so I could completely absorb myself in the beautiful scenery. We visited Genoa (the oldest city), drove through the capital Carson City and had lunch (provided in the price) in Virginia City. The bus driver talked about Nevada history the entire 11 hours! It was a great way to see the countryside and learn something about Nevada at the same time. The price $69 per person was very reasonable especially including lunch. The bus was very comfortable and well prepared with blankets for stops that were cold and plastic bags for treasures. We even saw wild horses. This trip was well worth my time!
