We went down the weekend of the 16th of Oct. to celebrate my birthday. We stayed in the West tower on the 26th floor. When you are up that high, you will not hear the trains or the freeway. We did have a lovely view of the Sierra mountains and of downtown Reno. My husband upgraded us to a deluxe suite with the jacuzzi, which I recommend!! Yes the rooms do have flower wallpaper on them and velvet bedspreads and a velvet loveseat, but really... who cares. The only thing I hated about the bed was that the pillows were really small and very fluffy, almost too fluffy. And yes, they do have stained towels there in the hotel rooms. We came across one.
All of the restaurants are pretty expensive in the hotel. About 50.00 per person, except for Rosie's Cafe. I wasn't at all pleased with Rosies. I had their fish and chips one night for dinner and the next morning I had frenchtoast down at Rosies for breakfast and it tasted like the french toast was made in the same grease as the fish the night before.
The casino was ok. The slot machines are pretty tight and it's hard to win anything in them. They were pretty good about coming around and offering drinks. I did not see a blue smokey haze like others said and the cigarette smoke wasn't too bad for a weekend.
We did take advantage of the swimming pool and jacuzzi. Nice pool, no issues there.
Also, there is a movie theater across the street that I would recommend going to if you get tired of gambling.
Yes, the hotel does slap with you with all sorts of "fees". We checked in and they told us there is a $5.00 fee for every day for "resort fees". We ended up paying 20.00 for that. Then the day we were checking out, the hotel made two transactions on our debit card without letting us know... one for 36.00 and the other for 46.00. The hotel said that was for the "upgrade" to our room and when we said we were paying cash for that, they said they knew that but still charged our debit card anyway and said they would release the funds when we checked out and funds would not go back into our bank until 3-5 business days. We still had to give them the cash for the upgrades. So we were pretty annoyed by just tossing stuff on our debit card.
I honestly would not waste your time with this casino. Yes, it's nice. It's nice if you are only staying for about a day and a half. Any longer and you are going to go stir crazy. I would just say forget it and stay in Reno at the Sliver Legacy or Eldorado or at the other hotels down there.
I forgot to mention, the hotel is 3 miles from Reno. It's about a 10.00 taxi ride to downtown Reno. They do have public transportation (city buses) as well. They also don't do anything for birthdays.
