My mom, cousin, and I visited the Chieftain Inn on July 15-18, 2011. The Inn was a short drive to my brother's home in Union Village, Vermont and right on the Connecticut River. These were the main reasons we chose it. We were not sorry. The Inn is more of a motel than a hotel or resort, but it is a family owned business with clean, spacious rooms and lovely views of the river. There is plenty of outdoor seating, including a gazebo for enjoying the lovely complimentary breakfast. The coffee is GREAT! Our rooms were paneled in rustic pine and the decor followed that theme, e.g. quilts on the bed, country curtains, etc.. The entire property is comfortably casual and a good value in comparison to some other places we have stayed in the area. It is within a 5 minute drive to downtown Hanover and, across the bridge to Norwich, VT. To say that the staff is friendly and helpful is an understatement. If you are looking for a relaxing place to stay, the Chieftain Inn takes the cake. By the way, canoes and kayaks are available for guest use and a pontoon boat can be rented. I would stay here again in a minute!
