“Poor Service, Rip Off”

Inn at Thorn Hill

We recently went to dinner in the dining room for a birthday celebration-we had Kristin as a waitress; We had to ask for water, ask for more bread, and she made a disguisted face when we asked for more ice in the ice bucket. Unattentive would be kind! The menu is very limited and a rip off - $72 for a steak for 2! The food was maybe passable(being kind) The desserts were so small it was a joke that they would serrve them for $8-9 each.

Atmosphere is beautiful in lounge and in dining room, but the experience stops there.

Try the Wentworth Hotel for dinner in Jackson-

My husband and I were looking for a one night getaway to celebrate his birthday. We found a reasonable midweek special package for under $200 which included room, dinner and breakfast. The room included a gas fireplace, a most comfortable queen bed and a 2 person jacuzzi. Both our dinner and breakfast were above our expectations. The staff was very accommodating, friendly and knowledgable. The views from the Inn on the snowy morning or our departure were breathtaking. We look forward to a return visit and highly reccommend this establishment.

    • Disliked — one minor annoyance-we thought the second floor hallway and room were much too warm. We couldn't enjoy the gas fireplace because of this.

“Wonderful stay.”

We wanted to reward the people who work with my husband, and decided on a weekend away. We wanted a place that had a dining room, so we chose the Inn. There were five couples, and everyone raved. The hospitality was warm and friendly, and all the people who worked there seemed genuinely happy to be there. Perhaps it was the new fallen snow.

The common rooms were just the right size, with conversation areas made up of comfy chairs and couches pulled up by fireplaces. The rooms were impressive--clean, spacious but cozy, with everything you may wish for. Our bed was excellent--fine sheets, a featherbed, and a down quilt. We had the Brookmead Suite so we could all get together in a living area, and it had a wet bar and fireplace. I also liked the dimmers on the lights. Small things, but they make a difference.

Breakfasts and dinners were gourmet, with several interesting choices. The corned beef hash and eggs florentine were real hits for breakfast. The tea and freshly made cookies were delicious when we came in from a sleigh ride. At dinner, we all had different meals, and there was a lot of sharing. "Wow, you have to taste this!" The only complaint my husband had was there wasn't a sommelier to help us with the volumnous wine list. We managed fine, though.

Everything was perfect--really. If there were any problems earlier, they seem to have worked them out, because we didn't experience anything that wasn't wonderful. We travel quite a bit, and can say this place was one of the best. We will definitely be back.

“Average but dated”

We decided to take our vacation at the Inn after being impressed by the awards they boast on their website. First impressions were great, lovely scenery, nice looking inn.

The Inn itself is well kept and clean. However the problems began with the staff. The lady on front desk was very helpful whilst checking us into our room (Mt.Washington) and all seemed great. However when we arrived later in the evening for dinner the staff seemed fraught the young man lead us to our table was very brief and the waitress was not very accomadating. The food was average, but the menu is definately directed towards the average age of the guests (50+), nothing exciting.

We saw the same young members of staff throughout the day in different roles, when we asked why this was we were told that they were English interns and were training in each area. By the tired look of the poor kids they were obviously overworked and the smug looking owners are reaping in the rewards of this.

Overall average place, but beware if you want anything special- this place is certainly as dated as the decor.

An absolutely delightful place, with wonderful service, an enthusiastic and helpful staff, fine setting, and excellent food. I searched for something to criticize, and did realize that the fan in our bathroom was slightly loud. (However, I'm sure that a call to the front desk would have had it fixed in no time.)

I'm shocked at the recent criticism of this place. The owner, and a number of staff, are readily accessible, and eager to help in any way.

The Inn at Thorn Hill takes its wine seriously -- more seriously than we do! We did tour the huge wine cellar, and learned about their wine club, special tastings, and other wine related events. But we were glad just to sit in front of a fire or in the outdoor hot tub, enjoying the elegant informality that characterizes this fine resort.

This inn is not inexpensive. But when we looked at our bill for a dinner and overnight package, we found that the room was really quite a bargain.
