we just returned from spending multiple nights at the Wentworth by the Sea and enjoyed the time immensely. We found the help to be of the highest caliber and was surprised to see the comments to the contrary.
Upon checking in we were up-graded to a lovely room with water views, however, prior to the upgrade we did refuse two other room offerings (one overlooked a roof!!!!!! ( but you could see the water if you cranked your neck to the right) therefore, it is advertised, 'water-view' - consumer beware - many of the rooms do NOT have a good location and when making the reservation be specific with your request. The term 'water view' is used loosely as you may be seeing the water thru the trees and over a roof if you turn at a certain angle. Since our room was lovely we have no complaint, however, if we were not upgraded we would have left rather than stare at a roof at these prices! We found the food enjoyable and ate most of our meals in the Tavern where you can order from the Tavern menu as well as the Main Dining Room's menu in casual attire.
The room and bathroom were a good size, the bathroom a simple tub, shower but very clean except for a bad stain on the bedroom rug. When we brought the stain to the attention of management they said the hotel has just been too busy to bring the rug cleaners in for repair. This hotel is extremely popular, especially this time of year with vacationing families and weddings. We were there on a Saturday when two weddings were scheduled, as well as a retirement party. It is not a place to go if you are looking for quiet, secluded times.
The hotel is obviously presenting itself as a family resort and children are everywhere this time of year; the hotel does not seem to put any restraints on their behavior. While in the Tavern at 10:00 PM children are dancing, yawning and sleeping at the table or sleeping in the arms of their parents. I think it would not be too extreme to limit the Tavern area to adults only; presently there is no area of the hotel off-limits to children of any age.
Also,we noticed quite a few dogs and had not realized this was a 'pet friendly' hotel. Once again, there are no restraints on where the dogs can wander on leash with their owners. They walk directly thru the lobby, thru the maze of people, and onto all the beautiful grass surrounding the hotel. I 'assumed' that certain rooms were designated for pets as is the case in most discerning hotels, to my dismay, and fortunately, I only found out this information on the day I was leaving as I may have left sooner.........ALL rooms are designated pet friendly!!!!!!!! In addition, it is not limited to only dogs, they have had cats and rabbits, as well!!!!!!!!! Quite frankly, I found this quite alarming - no where had I read that this was a 'pet friendly' hotel and that all sorts of four legged animals would be staying in all the rooms. Fortunately, I do not have allegies but anyone who had would probably have a problem at this hotel. I am an animal owner myself but I do not relish the thought that I have stayed in a hotel that has had as many animal inhabitants as human. One can't help but fear ticks and fleas, especially in the summer!
Since smoking is permitted in the hotel (in designated rooms) - there are designated rooms for the smoker but not for the animals!!!! ----interesting??????? we were unable to sit on the veranda as pipes and cigars were being used - Also, there is a beautiful lobby and, once again, no restraints with behavior - those who have been enjoying the swimming pool walk thru the lobby, dripping water on the floors, in their bathing suits to the elevators - mixing with those dressed in nice attire for luncheon, dinner, wedding, etc.....
So, how do I rate this hotel, we had a beautiful room, we enjoyed our meals -- loved the area BUT would hesitate to return- unless if was 'off' season AND I demanded that the room be fumigated for ticks or fleas!!!!! This place could be spectacular but someone in management needs to put some restrictions in place!
