My husband and son joined various friends and a few family members for a three day retreat to the WMH. The staff greeted up warmly upon arrival and provided us with a great room overlooking Cathedral Ledge. Luckily for us, we arrived in time to enjoy a mouth watering seafood buffet before relaxing in the bar listening to the pianist for the evening.

All of our meals during our stay in either the bar or dining room were outstanding and the staff was courteous and friendly. I would highly recommend escaping to the WMH for a weekend of shopping and esquisite dining.

I plan on visitng the WMH during the summer months for a weekend of hiking and heading up to Diana's Bath.

My wife and I stayed for two nights in January 2008 and all in all had a good time. One of the things I love about this hotel is it's location. It's close to the towns but seems to be out in the middle of nowhere. It is really a nice area. We had the escape package which included one breakfast, one Sunday brunch, which was great, and one dinner. The food was fantastic and our servers were there when we needed them and very friendly. My only complaint was the location of our room. The hotel was booked for a weekend getaway by the New Bedford Yacht club and they brought alot of kids. My wife and I have our own children, although not with us this time, and we love kids but the hotel chose to put us on the same floor and same area as the familys from this getaway. All we could hear from our room was running and screaming until 11:30 at night. I wanted to change my room the next morning but it was more hastle than it was worth seeing as I was only there 1 more night. I think the hotel should have been more proactive in booking our room in a different location as the they did not seem to be overly busy. Again, it was still a great time.

We have stayed at WMH many times over about 6 years because we had always had a great time and good service. We used to love it but are sorry to say we have watched it slowly going downhill. Two trips ago, we were disappointed, but chalked it up to a "one-time bad" and went back again. The restaurant was always one of our favorites. This time the eggs were fake/rubbery. I had to return a steak not once, but twice to get it cooked properly. The waitresses seemed unsure of what to do, never apologized, and instead of trying to fix it kept trying to get me to change what I ordered. I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing them even though I remained calm and polite throughout the whole situation. (I will say I was later given a small credit toward my bill,. However, that did not make up for the fact that we sat in the restaurant for over 2 hours and my family was all finished before I was.) A large wedding was going on throughtout the whole weekend, and it was clear the hotel was more concerned with catering to the quests of that. Quiet times were not obeyed. Children and loud guests went up and down the halls well after midnight waking up guests. The rooms are not very sound proof to the halls. We paid for a suite, and were given a room with an extra couch crammed in that was so full of springs, we were unable to sleep on it. The toilet ran repeatedly for about 5 minutes when flushed. On a plus note, the tavern staff is great, the pool is nicely heated and fun, although the pool and jacuzzi have been consistenly getting run down. There is a charming pianist that plays evenings and weekends in the dining room, and it is very relaxing to listen to while eating. However, all in all, we left saddened and disappointed and all agreeing (4 in our party) that it is time to find another place to stay in North Conway.

“Phenomenal Resort”

White Mountain Hotel and Resort

North Conway, NH: White Mountain Hotel and Resort: Phenomenal. My husband, I and an Aunt and Uncle wanted to get away for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We wanted to have the feeling of an old fashioned Thanksgiving without all the work. I searched the internet for a Thanksgiving Holiday package and several possibilities came up. After checking with Trip Advisor I chose the White Mountain Hotel and Resort in North Conway, NH. The information that I was able to obtain from the hotel's website and Trip Advisor still left me a little uncomfortable because I did not have first hand information but was relying on other people's experiences and obviously the hotel's website was self-serving. However, I cannot say enough about this hotel/resort. It was like being home. The rooms were large, clean and beautifully decorated. The hotel and surrounding grounds were immaculate and well taken care of. The Thanksgiving Dinner at the Ledges Restaurant which is right there at the hotel was wonderful. The food was suburb, the wait staff was friendly and the restaurant was beautifully decorated, warm and comfortable. The staff was like being with family. The area of North Conway was great for Christmas Shopping and when you came back to the hotel after a day of shopping the staff was there to greet you like you were coming home. I can't say enough about the hotel's Friday night Seafood Buffet. It was not only abundant in the choices of seafood and other foods offered but it was all cooked to perfection and impeccably laid out and served. The hotel's country breakfasts were wonderful, plenty to chose from and wonderfully prepared and served. Their Sunday Brunch was one of the best brunches I have ever attended and I am a brunch expert. The Thanksgiving Holiday Package price only went to make the experience at the White Mountain Hotel and Resort all the better. It was so reasonable, I thought at first they had made an error. The experience was a wonderful surprise. All in all, I couldn't recommend this hotel/resort more highly and feel sorry for anyone who is unable to experience it for themselves.

First, I would like to say if you want luxury and are used to being pampered this is not the place for you. Most of us who travel to the mountains usually are staying for the weekend. We have no need for bell service. This is the white mountains not the Ritz...................... stay at the Red Jacket, although not the Ritz but a little more upscale.

The rooms at the WMH have very dry heat. I would suggest bringing a small humidifier.

BTW if there is a wedding going on please be sure to tell the wedding party that you do not want any noise. A quiet wedding celebration is a must. LOL ( read previous review).

I really enjoyed this place (other than the dry heat), we had a relaxing weekend. I loved the lounge for a quiet drink and a quick snack. The scenery is quite spectacular. We will stay at WMH again.
