From the highway, even while ascending the long driveway up the hill, It looks nice. As soon as you're parked in front of the hotel you see an entirely different picture. They claim to have renovated only a few months ago but we were wondering where. In fact, the only thing that looked recent was the outdoor pool. From the moment we checked in we saw filth. The bathroom shower tiles were moldy , the bathtub had some soap scum and was dirty and there were various hairs on the edge of the bathtub that looked as if they had belonged to Bigfoot. At bed time I drew back the blankets to check for bed bugs, like we do at every hotel, and found on the first bed, many hairs of different colour (they obviously belonged to the previous lodgers, and perhaps the ones before them!) and worse still more hairs on the second bed and dried vomit stains!! We rang the front desk and demanded someone come to change the linens. About 20 minutes later someone came to change the linens and gasped when he saw the vomit stains. He apologised profusely. We complained to the manager and received another apology and a nominal discount on the room. It was very cold the day we stayed so my son and I decided to try the heated indoor pool. Assuming it was heated I ran and did my best cannonball into the deep-end and actually screamed underwater because it was FREEZING! - the Atlantic ocean is warmer. The hot tub located just adjacent to the pool was filthy and had a foam on the surface like there was soap in it. We also found hazardous debris around the pool that could cause injury if trampled on. The pictures on their website are very deceiving. We were extremely disappointed with this hotel and will never return.

In response to this guest's review of the property, I can only apologize that they were disapointed in their stay. I was not able to find the stained sheets the next morning when I was informed of their disapointment. The indoor pool is kept between 79 and 84 degrees, much warmer than the Atlantic ocean, here in the northeast, at least. Occasionally someone will get in the hot tub with soap or shampoo residue on their body, and this will cause the foaming. When this is seen, the hot tub is drained, cleaned and refilled as soon as possible. We appreciate the guest taking the time to give us their feedback, as it only helps us improve.

Good Price, about $85 per night.
Great View from one side.
The breakfast buffet was very good.
The staff was very friendly, but the whole place is kind of tired looking and feeling.
The indoor "heated" pool did not feel heated at all and after hiking all day, we really wanted that.
No ice machine worked for the three days we were there, and we needed ice for hiking water.
We are going back next year, but we are probably staying at a different hotel.

I also agree with the previous reviewer's statement regarding the pool area and uncontrolled children.

I will return to this resort as I knew what to expect..but I'm writing to alert travelers that this is not a place for a quiet, romantic getaway. The views are fab, and the hotel staff wonderful (friendly and helpful). Our room was clean and showers hot with pressure!

BUT, for some reason when parents are on vacation - they feel they no longer (or maybe never do) need to explain to their children proper behavior when sharing space with guests. There is constant running up and down the halls at all times - morning and night. When I experienced this, I thought maybe the hotel should have a sign-in sheet for kids that they promise to behave appropriately and respect the presence of other guests!!! I was there with my 16 y.o. daughter who, shockingly, stated to me: "Mom, you would NEVER have allowed me to behave like that when I was younger!" True. But, again...this is a family resort and being a seasoned traveler for business and pleasure - I am completely aware what "family resort" means. I enjoyed the rest of our stay (easy access to Cranmore, Attitash and Bretton Woods/Mt. Washington ski areas.). I only wish they had more snow. The Red Jacket offered wagon rides instead of the sleigh rides we were so looking forward to taking!

Yes, as we stated in the preview review, we have made numerous changes and as you said we are a kids friendly resorts, serving family, so there old adage "Kids will be kids", holds true. If people let us know that there are kids being mischievous we will investigate and do our best to have the stop.

This Hotel is VERY kid friendly, so if you expect a quiet retreat, keep that in mind. We love the Red Jacket and are repeat customers, but that being said.....

1) They are in need of a refurbishment of the entire pool area....the indoor Jacuzzi has seen better days. The pool itself needs updating as well. The new rooms are really nice and I hear that the summer is bringing on more renovations.....that will be great!

Staff is great there....always a "welcome" and always personable.

2) I love children.....BUT! Some parents allow their kids to jump around the room and wander the halls late at tnight and always loudly and the rooms above mine! Not really the hotel's fault, but maybe more signage? Or put families on the ground floor?
Not sure of the solution to that, but it's the only real drawback to the RJ.

Thank you for your comments. We have eliminated the indoor pool and added a wave pool instead to the Kahuna Laguna Water Park that we finished in Febuary of 2008 and the outdoor Pool is brand new too as of April 2008.

We stayed 2 nights, room was old, overlooking parking lot.Pool was FREEZING! Hot tub was filthy! Room was old, heat didn't work right, had to hold flush down on flush...when we told office, they said "there were no rooms available to switch with." Oh yes, they are remolding one half of the hotel, my kids couldn't use game room or vending machines...I wish we were told of this BEFORE we arrived!! Hope this quick summary helps!

As you can probable see, we did not initially respond to Trip Advisor comments. So some of these responds are about now and not them.

With that said, we have renovated our hotel in 2007 and added a brand new outdoor pool and a state of the art 40,000 square foot indoor water park will call Kahuna Laguna.

I think we will see a major change between then and now.

Thank you for your comments. These comments have lead to the new and improved Red Jacket Mountain View Resort.
